We have only one more drive with the whole group, and that is today from Teacapan to Isla de Las Piedra near Mazatlan. Then on Friday, we split ways and most of the group is exiting through Nogales with the leader of the Copper Canyon group, while Ruth and I take two rigs out through Laredo.
We will head for two nights to the Sierra de Organos National Park, then Saltillo, then the border.
Once we reach Texas on April 2nd, we will make use of our Texas State Parks Pass for a couple of weeks before making our way to the Canadian border for the end of April.
Still 1,316 kms (816 miles) to go!
Most of the group walked up to the pepper processing plant yesterday morning to see if they would show us around. It's supposed to be an interesting place. But the guy who would have taken us around wasn't in, and the girl asked if we could come back another day... which unfortunately we can't. Oh well. If you don't ask, you don't know.
We went for another 5 km (3 mile) walk on the beach yesterday...

A couple of the guys have been trying their hand at fishing from shore. They weren't having much luck and one of them drove into town to buy some bait. He was asking the locals what they use in this area, and was told to use shrimp! When he returned with the bait he tossed his line in the water and sure enough caught a fish right away.
He proceeded to toss it back in the water. A local lady was watching and couldn't figure this out. Why would you catch a fish, and then throw it back in the water??
Because in these parts, the only reason you would catch a fish is to eat it!

DeleteBeautiful sunset and the beaches are awesome. I remember one year we went to Mazatlán in April/May, the jellyfish were out in full force. We couldn't walk on the beaches without shoes...we got stung a tad when we wore flip flops. Looking forward to the rest of the drive back into the states. Wow what a trip!

ReplyDeleteWe are going to be busy during our time here but to be honest Kevin and I really can't wait to be back up in the mountains again and away from the beach, we have both had enough of the bugs and the heat.
