Well normally, the first thing we do here is get the municipal water supply turned on to the house trailer because that's where we have been living the last four summers.
And this year, we did the same thing. The system worked fine in the concession and cookshack, but there was no water at all in the house trailer.
Huh?
This has never happened before. The only thing we can figure is that there was some residual water left in the line and it is still frozen. Apparently they had a very deep freeze in these parts this past winter. So we've been going in three or four times a day and turning on a tap to see if there is any water, but nothing yet.
So it's a good thing we have Sherman with us.
The only thing that it affects right now is that we can't do any laundry. Hopefully the line will thaw out by this weekend or we will be doing it by hand.
Another beautiful spring day yesterday, great for working outside.
This looks like a good job for a 25 year old!
The tree trimmers are done now, but they sure left a lot of big logs behind. Steve (the new manager) and I do pretty good with them, but after a couple of hours it's time to do something else and let the muscles recover.
The exercise feels great though!
Meanwhile, Ruth and Jo (Steve's wife) have been doing leaf cleanup. No pictures today, but we'll do some more before and after pics for you in tomorrow's update. It sure is getting done a lot faster with four people instead of just the two of us!
It's interesting that we're seeing some different birds here this spring that we have not seen here in past years.
A western grebe. Never seen one here before, and there are a few of them around.
Some of you have been asking about our owls, and we haven't seen them yet this season. The nest had pretty much disintegrated by the time we left last fall and now it's completely gone. Great horned owls generally don't build their own nest, they just take one over from another bird so it has likely moved on, which is a shame because we so enjoyed watching the babies grow up the past four years.
Taken this morning.
We've never seen our water level this high at this time of year. This is a good thing, although hopefully it doesn't get too high too soon! Normally the majority of the inflow comes in mid June when the snow melts in the mountains west of Calgary so it'll be interesting to see what happens.
Off to work... enjoy your day!

And in Canada...
I think I must have missed a blog, but aren't you going to Alaska this summer?
ReplyDeleteYep... we're only here for two weeks to help the new managers get things running, then we're headed north!
DeleteAn air fryer with a digital touchscreen is cool, but I'm waiting for one of those Lodge cast-iron frying pans with a heads-up display...
ReplyDeleteHa! C'mon, you know you want one... :-)
DeleteActually, I fantasize about a frying pan made of diamond. Here's some of diamond's properties: conducts heat five times better than copper, can't be scratched, nothing sticks to it (adhesives, solder, food, etc.).
DeleteI wonder if in this case a diamond would still be a girl's best friend, lol!
DeleteYep, always lots of work at camp grounds. The park clean up is looking excellent. Too bad the owls have moved on. Talking about digital stuff, will you be getting those drones that take pictures for your Yukon trip?
ReplyDeleteNo. A new camera is on the agenda first!
DeleteWe want to travel from Chicago through Canada.
ReplyDeleteAny route suggestions?
Thanks.
Sure, but "through Canada" could mean anywhere. What is your destination?
DeleteGetting things all up and running is working well, hope you get the water problem solved soon.
ReplyDeleteYep, but it will take a bit before we have everything shipshape! I hope the line thaws out as well, we are getting to the point that we need to do some laundry.
DeleteLooking forward to the posts on your upcoming trip. Living vicariously through you two.
ReplyDeleteAnd we are looking forward to bringing those post to you! :-)
DeleteHanging an old fashioned Worklight on the pipes adds enough heat to thaw them out.
ReplyDeleteWill you be returning to the park next year or are you planning more summer travels.
Looking forward to your trip.
Be Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
The frozen water line is underground.
DeleteWe will not be returning to the park next year, but possibly for 2020.
Maybe you can temporarily run a garden hose from the cook shack to the washing machine? Sure would beat doing it by hand!
ReplyDeleteGood idea Doug and we don't even have to run it from the cook shack. There is an outdoor tap on the side of the concession building that we could use. Not sure why one of the four us had not thought of that. Good thing we have you reading our posts! :-)
