We are back in Whitehorse!

We left Whitehorse on June 15th, so we've been off exploring the Yukon for about six weeks. And of course, that included a few days in Northwest Territories and Alaska as well.

Since we left Whitehorse, we have driven about 3,700 kms (2,300 miles), and much of it was on dirt roads!

Here's our route over the past six weeks...

Six weeks exploring the Yukon.

We had a lot adventure, didn't we? Magnificent scenery, muddy dirt roads, grizzly bears, fantastic hiking trails, our first time at the Arctic Ocean. Wow. What a trip.

Oh, and yesterday? We saw another lynx...

We think this was a big male lynx.

And he was stalking something.

And then I saw another lynx! Just guessing, but it may have been a female. It went into the bush.

This one sat for a minute, and then pounced into the bush!

So, what's on the agenda next?

Well, we're going to make our way south into British Columbia over the next couple of weeks. We're going to take the Cassiar Highway #37 which is supposed to have more magnificent scenery. Then we have to make our way over to Fairmont Hot Springs Resort by August 24th where Sherman is going to be treated to a $60 a night campsite! We're actually going there for a family reunion. My (Kevin's) father was originally from British Columbia and I have lots of relatives there. We are also going to meet up with our daughter and her family at the reunion!

After the reunion, we will spend a month or so exploring southern British Columbia. So, lots of neat stuff coming up.

Ruth, on the old Alaska Highway bridge over the Aishihik River.

No longer safe for traffic!

Scenery along the way.

Oh, and I should give you an update on our four month Mexico RV Caravan trip coming up this winter.

The trip is sold out, and we have 7 participants signed up! But, we do have a waiting list, so if you're interested you could put your name on that in case any of our group have to cancel at the last minute.

It's going to be a great trip, with an interesting mix of people. Two single ladies, each with their own class B. The other five rigs are couples, and only one is from the U.S... the rest are Canadian. And the largest rig in the group is a 30 ft Class C. So much more manageable than the rigs we had last year, and including us there will be a total of only 14 people compared to the 24 we were last winter!

So, we're really looking forward to that, and it's only four months away!

We're going to spend the next couple of days here in Whitehorse. We won't be relaxing though! Sherman needs a major cleanup, so hopefully we can borrow a water hose while we're staying at our friends Jean and Art's place!

    2. Actually, vocarious ought to be a real word. I know many people who are too vocarious.

    3. Honestly, Peter, I just thought you had a couple of beers! LOL! You did better than I did when on one of Kevin and Ruth's blogs I recommended that a "wench" pull them out of the mud instead of a "winch."

  3. When I drove the Cassiar Highway, one of the things I saw was a mamma bear with 4 cubs all walking in row. One of the cubs was white(a ghost bear). By the time I grabbed my camera and fired it up they had gone behind some trees. Bears with 4 cubs is pretty darn rare, and one being a ghost bear is really, really rare. I sure would have liked to have gotten that shot.

    1. Wow, that would have been such a fantastic sight to have seen! Lucky you. :-) Maybe we will be lucky enough to see the little white (ghost) cub as a full grown adult on our drive down the Cassiar, wouldn't that be something. :-)

    2. That it would! It was just south of Hyder AK off the Cassiar hwy. But was about 14 years ago.

    4. Very interesting, thanks for the info. :-) It is possible that we might see it, black bears can live upwards of 30 years or so. We will keep our eyes open for it. ;-)

  4. What a great trip, I cannot help but wonder how many times you have had to wash Sherman:))

    1. Lol, there is a difference between how many times Sherman "should" have been washed and how many times we "was" actually washed! In all that time he was only sprayed down (not even washed) once! This is why he now needs a really good clean up.

    1. Thank you, we will most likely stop in there on our way down the Cassiar Highway. We don't need to rent a kayak, we have ours with us. :-) Not sure we will stay overnight there though at $20 a night, we will see.
