A short hike is better than no hike at all!

First thing yesterday morning, we drove into town from our camping spot out at Palmer Lake. No traffic on the road at all, except for one border patrol vehicle that passed us.

Got ourselves parked up in our usual spot behind the public library in Oroville. We've been here in the Oroville area since September 4th now! On that day, I said "No worries, we have lots of time and can wait here a week if we have to."

Well, it's been nine days now!

Driving back from Palmer Lake to Oroville.

6:45am.

That's the old train bridge that we crossed on our bikes the other day!

First thing to do using the library internet was to find out where our part was. Sure enough, they had flown it from Seattle, down to California, and then back up to Spokane. Still scheduled for delivery before 4:30pm.

Later in the morning, we headed to the local grocery store. Picked up a few things, as well as two five liter boxes of wine, and an 18 pack of beer. We will be over the duty free limit when we cross back into Canada, however two things are on our side. One, we have learned that if you are over, you have probably a 75/25 chance they will not make you pay anyhow provided you are honest with them regarding how much you have. And two, if they do pull you in and make you pay, it will still be cheaper than if we had bought it in Canada! So it's a chance worth taking.

Then we drove over to our usual overnight spot at the Whister Canyon Trailhead, only a few miles south of town.

Had some lunch, and decided to do the Frog Pond hike. It's only a short one, at about 2.5 miles (4 kms) return, but the one way uphill was enough to get the blood flowing enough to make the exercise worthwhile. Besides, a short hike is better than no hike at all.

View of where Sherman is parked.

Not a bad spot if you're in need of a break.

I took a video for you...

We continued on to the Frog Pond and the main viewpoint. There wasn't much water left in the Frog Pond, however I can imagine there would be in the spring. The view from that spot looking back towards Oroville was quite nice though!

Not a bad view for a short hike!

Oroville, Washington.

Back at the motorhome, I checked the Fedex tracking again. The package was showing as "DELIVERED"!

Now, to find out if it was the right one. I hopped on my bicycle, and rode the 2 miles (3.2 kms) each way to the mechanic shop. Sure enough, it was the correct part! The mechanic agreed to do the job at 9:00am this morning. It shouldn't take much longer than two and a half hours or so, therefore we should be back in Canada after lunch!

Sherman, parked at GPS 48.902689, -119.424125

We'll head over to Carwash Scott's place in Oliver, and then ride our bikes over to visit Cabri friends Jan and Marnet who have their RV just north of Oliver. At least that's the plan!

We've enjoyed our time here in Oroville, but we're itching to get going again!

    1. Yes we were very fortunate but then we always seem to find things to do no matter where we are.

  5. Your pictures are always great but "6:45 a.m." and the one below it of "the old train bridge" are exceptional! Thanks for sharing these beautiful sights.

    1. Thank you very much Jean! The scenery was beautiful and with the sun just starting to rise made it just perfect for taking pictures. We are normally up around 6:30am but not always on the road at that time.
