Arrived in time for happy hour!

We woke up to a bit of a smoky day in Castlegar, but we decided to go to a park and get a bike ride in. Not much to see in the downtown area, but we did enjoy the riverfront path and a visit to Zuckerberg Island.

After lunch, we drove to the Christina Lake area, still heading west on highway 3 towards Osoyoos.

A little longer of a drive today...but not much!

Yesterday's drive, 86 kms (53 miles).

There are lots of sculptures around Castlegar.

Me, with a sand sculpture.

Enjoying our new bicycles!

Suspension bridge to Zuckerberg Island.

Alexander Zuckerberg was a Russian immigrant who built this Russian style house on the island back in the 1930's. He passed away in 1961, and the house deteriorated over a 20 year period until it was purchased and restored by the city. Now, there's a small museum inside.

House on Zuckerberg Island.

Zuckerberg was a wood carver, and this "Stump Woman" carving is the only one that remains.

We rode our bikes to downtown Castlegar, but as I said earlier, there's not much to see there. A few more interesting sculptures, and some odd ones too. This fountain was interesting...

The water caused the wheels to turn.

Then we headed onto highway 3 west towards Christina Lake. Highway 3 runs through the mountains and the scenery is gorgeous. Sherman has to summon all of his horses to get up some of the steep passes, but then he gets to relax as he coasts down the other side!

Beautiful views from highway 3.

Scenery along the way.

More scenery.

Beautiful Christina Lake.

We arrived at Jim and Betty's place just in time for happy hour! This is one of the couples who were on the Mexico RV Caravan that we took over for the month of February 2016... hard to believe that was two and a half years ago! They had been reading this blog, and saw that we were going to be pretty much driving right by, so they got in touch and invited us for a visit!

Me, Jim, and Betty.

They have a beautiful property here, right beside the Kettle River. Including two full hookup RV sites!

Parked up at Jim and Betty's place.

They made a delicious dinner... grilled salmon and stuffed potatoes!

Lots of fun talking about RV'ing in Mexico, and after dinner we solved all the world's problems. Well, most of them anyhow!

Today, we're going to explore some of the area and we're looking forward to just hanging out here for another day. Maybe I'll work on getting some of the bugs off Sherman's front end!

    1. It was wonderful to see them again after 2 1/2 years, hey haven't changed a bit. :-)

They had full hook up but we didn't need it so we just parked in a spot that worked well for us.

  6. Yup. We drove Highway 3 to Cristina lake 10 years ago and your pics brought back nice memories! Paul and I were still “dating” then.... he went skinny dipping to my horror! lol.
