It's definitely a bicycle friendly city.
We had an early lunch and set off at 12:30pm.
The first hour was all uphill! What a workout!
Heading higher.
At least when you're going uphill, you'll probably end up with a view!
We were headed for Canyon Falls Park to see the waterfalls. But when we got there, we found that the trail was closed due to structural instability... with a $500 fine if you cross it. So we didn't take that chance.
Zooming in, we could see the falls from a distance.
And as I said, the hiking trails beyond where the falls were were not attractive looking. So we headed back downhill a different route. It was more like a country drive through the orchards and vineyards, so it was quite nice....and mostly downhill, which was a pleasure after doing the uphill workout to get there!
Pear trees.
Pears, almost ready for picking.
Looking down on Lake Okanagan.
We stopped for a rest at a park by the lake.
Nice day, but it's not quite beach weather.
And it was actually a really nice day. Sunny with a few clouds, and temperature around 19C (66F). Perfect to be out getting some exercise.
And exercise we did... doing 29 kms (18 miles)!
This morning, we are up early for an 8:00am appointment to get Sherman's wheel alignment done.

Dog owners... have you seen these new bowls...? On sale today...
Available in Canada too (at a much more expensive price!)...
If you have the time a nice bike ride with easy grades is right there in Kelowna…

Cheers!
Thanks Peter! We have biked on part of the Kettle Valley Railway Trail just not the part in Kelowna. I wish we had more time because then we could have done a bit more of it there. There are so many hiking and biking trails in this area we could be kept busy for a very long time.
DeleteBasic biking tip: it's always good to do your outbound rides uphill or into the wind, that way it's easy to get home.
ReplyDeleteMost definitely the best way to approach a bike ride but that doesn't happen all the time! ;-)
DeleteYou can sure cover a lot of ground in and around town in a short amount of time when you have a good bike!
ReplyDeleteYes, you sure can. We love our new to us bikes! :-)
DeleteLooks like you had a good workout around the city. do love the bike trails.
ReplyDeleteWe sure did! :-)
DeleteHi
ReplyDeleteBeing that Kelowna was my home town - in BC Okanagan is spelt with an “a”. Different than Washington. Are you guys heading towards the Coast at all during this trip?
Come check out Harrison Hot Springs.
Thanks Taylor, I guess after spending nine days in Oroville, WA we just got used to writing it with and "o" instead of an "a". :-)
DeleteYes, but we won't be spending time by the coast. We are headed towards White Rock, where we will be leaving the motorhome while we fly back to Ontario for a family visit.
We have been to Harrison Hot Springs before but it was back in 2007, if we have time we may stop again but our time is starting to run out on us before our flight out next week.
Great scenic ride. Pears look good, I might have been tempted to try one:)
ReplyDeleteYes, it was a very scenic bike ride. This whole area is so pretty. The pears looked good if you like them, but I don't. Not sure if you would get your hand slapped trying to take one of the tree though! ;-)
DeleteHi, your bike rides are really great. Do you have an idea when you will be in Crescent Beach? For the next days the weather man promised rain and starting Sunday sun shine and warmer.
ReplyDeleteFrom 20th to 23rd September is the Abbotsford RV show in case you are interested. We are looking forward to seeing you. Until then good travels. Best regards Angi
Thank you angi, we are really enjoying our bikes and this is definitely a great area for bike rides.
DeleteWe are hoping to be in Crescent Beach on Sunday or Monday at the latest. If there is any kind of change we will let you know.
Yes, we have already been in contact with Paul, not sure if we will go to the RV show or not, we will see how our time is going before we make any kind of commitment.
We are looking forward to seeing you as well. :-)
I remember all the wonderful fruit and veggies grown in the valley from our visit through there a few years ago (but we were too early for pears, also!). Traversing Yellowhead Hwy from Jasper, we continued south to Clearwater and finally Penticton, before returning to the US. That was a very scenic highway.
ReplyDeleteThat whole area is fantastic for fruits, vegetables and wines. It's has a great climate and rich soil that is perfect for growing food.
DeleteSounds like you had a wonderful visit when you were in this part of Canada.
