The big city...

With a population of around 130,000 people, Kelowna obviously isn't that big of a city. But it's the biggest city that we've been around since we skirted around the Edmonton area at the end of May. And it's pretty busy, and there seems to be a lot of traffic. But I guess that's the case with any city, isn't it?

I guess we've been out in the countryside for too long!

Here's our drive from yesterday...

Yesterday's drive, 119 kms (74 miles).
(We did a detour up towards the airport that doesn't show on this map!)

We said goodbye to friends Greg and Lorraine and I'm sure we'll bump into them again in our travels some day. Thanks for inviting us!

Greg, Lorraine, Ruth, and me!

And then we headed out, going north on highway 97 towards Kelowna...

It was a pretty drive...with not much traffic... yet!

Scenery along the way.

Lots of vineyards.

Okanagan Lake.

 Scenic drive.

They had been calling for rain, but so far it was a beautiful day!

There's no money in the wine business...

Crossing the lake to Kelowna.

We stopped at a couple of stores to pick up some supplies, and just as we got back to the motorhome at the Walmart it started to pour buckets of rain... even with a few small hailstones. Our timing was perfect! But, it was just a short storm and it was over 15 or 20 minutes later.

Then, we went to the north part of town near the airport to visit my cousin Robin and his wife Tanis. We figured out that Robin and I hadn't seen each other since 1976! So it was nice to get caught up and we had a really nice visit with them.

Then we drove to the south end of the city where friends Larry and Anne live. They were one of the couples that were on the Mexico RV Caravan with us back in February of 2016.

But, our timing is not good! While we are here at Larry and Anne's house... they are not! We knew this in advance... but they said it was still fine for us to park on their nice level driveway even though they weren't going to be here.

So we are driveway camping here for two nights.

We're actually just wasting a day because we have a wheel alignment appointment for Sherman tomorrow (Tuesday) morning at 8:00am. But they live in an area that has lots of hiking and biking trails, so we're going to get out and get some exercise for a few hours.

  2. So nice to see a picture of Kelowna without the bloody smoke! The wheel alignment must be the last of the repairs/maintenance for Sherman for a while

    1. We have zero interest... the wineries around here are very pricey.

  4. That is an excellent price on the dog coat - even the size 3XL is only $20.99USD.

    1. Yes, it is definitely nice to know that Sherman is just about all fixed up. Kevin is definitely noticing a difference now that the bell crank has been changed and the new control arms and balls joints are in. Today will be the wheel alignment.

Those flowers are hydrangeas and I think that particular type are called Bobo Hydrangeas.

    2. Sherman will feel like driving new! That's great! Bobo Hydrangeas nicer than Southern variety of Blue ones. Geraldine starts own plants from just 2 leaves. Won't forget, 1st time, she propagated over 500; (she doubted they'd take). I had dig 499 holes! Lol..She'll be looking for Bobo hydrangeas now! Thank you Ruth! Both of you continue enjoying your travels bc we enjoy your blog!

    3. He sure will! It will be nice to have all the work done to him that needs to be done. :-)

Wow, 500 hydrangeas to plant, that would have been a lot. She should have sold some of them and gotten a little pocket money. :-) I hope that you can find some of these Bobo ones for your garden.

  6. Yep, we did a winery with Justin and Lindsey. It was our first. It was a good time, mostly because of the company. Now we can say we did it.

    1. Yeah, that one that was behind Lindsey and Justin's house was a beautiful winery and we enjoyed looking around it too. We didn't do the tour though, really all the tour does is show you the same process that is basically done everywhere and the amount they charge for these wine tours is getting pretty expensive. We have done enough of these tours now that we really don't need to do any more.

  7. Nice Scenery but since Kathy can't drink due to Medication we just keep the wheels rolling.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. The scenery here is beautiful and I am sure the wineries are too but we don't see a need to stop at them either.
