There were still bugs from the Yukon plastered on there!

We had breakfast together at Jim and Betty's place. Ruth made some pancakes and we brought over a jug of our coveted real Canadian maple syrup to share with them.

Then, we had a walking tour of their 10 acre property here beside the Kettle River and then set out in their car to have a look at some of the sites to see in the Christina Lake area.

The property is located only about 1 km (less than a mile as the crow flies) from the United States border!

They actually have it up for sale...

It's a beautiful property right on the river.

Their backyard has a spring fed swimming hole!

Then we hopped in the car and went for a drive up some of the forest service roads. Nice for me to not have to drive for a change. Don't get me wrong, I love driving... but sometimes it's nice just to watch what you're driving past without having to concentrate on the road!

We drove up to a cell tower that overlooks Christina Lake...

Christina Lake.

Looking west. The United States is on the left, Canada is on the right.
The line you see cut through is not the border though, it's just electricity corridor. T
he border is actually on the left of the picture.

The Kettle River.

The Kettle River Canyon.

Back at the house, you would think it was afternoon nap time! But I had some work to do! Sherman's front end looked nasty... there were still bugs from the Yukon plastered on there! I had some Turtle Wax bug and tar remover, and I tried that... but it was useless. I knew that Spray Nine was good for removing bugs, and someone had reminded me about that just the other day.

And it is... just spray it on, wait a minute, and it pretty much dissolves the bug guts. Still a little bit of scrubbing involved, but it works really well.

Before and after!

A flicker of some type?

Jim grilled up some steaks for dinner, and while we were eating, this mom and her young one wandered through the back yard.

So, we're heading back on the road again, but not going too far. We'll likely stop again in the town of Greenwood... we've heard there is a nice free campground there!

A bit of a price drop on the highly rated Clam Quick-Set Bug Gazebo.

And in Canada...

    1. Yes, we are enjoying seeing people that we haven't seen for a while and getting caught up on all the news with them. :-)

  2. I think your bird is a Northern Flicker, perhaps a juvenile? The black "necklace" is usually what I look for for an ID.

    1. I agree, I think it is a Northern Flicker as well but I think maybe it is a female. There were several others around too but there black collar wasn't as prominent so I think perhaps those ones were juveniles.

    1. They have a beautiful property and really don't want to sell it but it is getting to be too much work for them. They would keep the property if they could find someone that would be willing to come and live in one of their full hookup sites and do some work there for them during the summer though.
