Busy day visiting

Nice day here in southwestern British Columbia. Mostly clear skies, a little hazy, no wind, and highs of about 18C (65F). Not too shabby at all for mid October.

After breakfast, blog reader Shirley stopped by with her partner Richard. Shirley has been a regular reader of this blog since around the time we won a trip to Namibia.

And since they live close by, it would have been a shame not to meet up while we're in the area. So they arrived around 10:30am, and we walked down to a nearby coffee shop and chatted for an hour.

Nice day for a stroll down to the coffee shop.

Kevin, Shirley, Richard, and Ruth.

Nice to finally put the person to the name, and we all enjoyed our short get together.

After lunch, Ruth and I went for a walk around the park beside where we are staying. It's not really that big of a park, but if you do all of the trails you end up doing about 4 kms (2.5 miles). So that's what we did!

Ruth, with a view of the bay.

Great blue heron.

A little closer view.

Pretty duck.

Part of the park.

Then, before we knew it, it was 3:30pm! I had wasted about an hour getting the motorhome registration renewed. In Saskatchewan, we can renew online, but there was some kind of glitch in the system that wouldn't allow me to do it, so I ended up having to phone them to get it all sorted out. Took about an hour from start to finish, but at least it's done.

At 3:30pm, our hosts Bernd and Angelika had invited some guests who had done a Baja RV caravan with them a couple of years ago, and they've stayed in touch. So two other couples came over, and the 8 of us had lots to talk about regarding Mexico travel. It was a fluke (small world) that one of the couples we had previously met in Dawson City, Yukon this past summer!

Lots of conversation, and Angelika likes to entertain with lots of good food as well! Thanks for the great evening!

Looks like another nice day today. I need to go over some things on the motorhome to make sure that Sherman is ready to hit the road when we depart tomorrow morning.

  1. You guys must be getting pretty excited about hitting the road and heading south! I know I'm getting excited about your updates :)
We'll be wintering in San Antonio this year, and we're really looking forward to it! Not as exciting as Mexico, but should be fun nonetheless! Especially with the temps here in Saint John, NB this week being in the single digits...brrrrr! We start our southern migration on Dec 1, and it can't come fast enough!
Okay, folks, drive safe and take care,

    1. Yes, we are very excited to get back on the road to new adventures! :-)

Any weather that you get in San Antonio will beat the weather that New Brunswick will get in the winter, so I am sure you will have a wonderful winter no matter what. We hope that month of cool/cold weather will go by fast for you.

Have a great winter and thank you for following along on our adventure.

  2. We just completed a 27 day driving tour of Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, and Bosnia in Sept. We followed your Romania trip in Nov 2016 and it helped with our plans. The area of Transylvania in Romania was beautiful with castles, horse pulled wagons, and hay stacks. This trip exceeded our expectations. Plan a coastal Croatian trip in your bucket list. You will not be disappointed.

    1. Wow, sounds like a wonderful trip. We are glad that our blog helped to make your planning a little easier. The Transylvania area is spectacular, when we eventually get back there we want to spend more time in the northwestern part of the country. We have plans to go back to Romania as well as hitting those other countries as well. Not so sure that we would enjoy the Croatian coast though. I am sure it is beautiful but we hear that there are lots of tourists! I know that we would visit quickly but then we would head inland and enjoy the mountains and less people. I know we are strange!! ;-)

    2. Croatia is enjoyable when traveling in shoulder season and picking the places to stay that are not crowded and busy. They have quite a few national parks that have many assorted hiking trails you would like. There is a good toll road system as well as car rental is less than surrounding countries. Avoid the coastal towns that have large cruise ship visits. Hope this helps

    3. Yep, that is exactly the time of year that we would pick to go. We definitely wouldn't want to hit the coast during high season that is for sure! Some of the National Parks are also very busy in the summertime. We are hoping that when we go and visit Croatia we will be able to do it in a motorhome. At least that is what we would really like to do. :-)

  3. It is a small world when you keep meeting people that you have met in the past or are heading in the same direction.
    Wishing we had your temperatures.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. Yes, it is a small world indeed and we have learned a number of times already.

The temperatures out here in the Vancouver area are quite nice at the moment. We obviously left Ontario in the nick of time. Hope you aren't having to wait around too long before you start to head south as well!
