What's up for the next six months...?

Sherman the motorhome is waiting for us in British Columbia. We arrive back there on October 17th.

From there, we have about five and a half weeks to get from the Vancouver area to Mission, Texas. We could take a direct route that would be about 4,000 kms (2,500 miles), but there are some things we want to see in Washington state and Oregon, and northern California.

So our route from the Canadian border to the Mexican border is going to look something like this...

Somewhere around 5,400 kms (3,350 miles).

We will be meeting the rest of our Mexico RV group in Mission, Texas at the end of November, and crossing the border into Mexico on December 2nd. It is likely that we will do some Interstate driving through Nevada and Arizona just to pass through some of the areas where there isn't as much to see.

Then, we spend four months exploring some of our favorite places in Mexico! One of the things we missed out on last winter was our own favorite places!

Our Mexico route is going to look something like this...

It's not exactly accurate because Google Maps only allows you to put in 10 waypoints. But, you get the idea of our approximate route. It will work out to around 5,000 kms (3,000 miles) during 4 months in Mexico. Quite a bit less driving than the 9,000 kms we did in only 3 months last winter. This trip will be a lot more relaxed!

So, that's what's on the agenda for the next six months once we get back to Sherman 9 days from now!

  1. Ask George Yates how he puts more that 10 waypoints on his maps. Ithink he uses Layers for each batch of 10 points. https://geosuzie.blogspot.com/

    1. Thank you! Kevin has also used "Bing" maps where he was able to put more than 10 waypoints, he just forgot about it.

  4. One of my favorite places "where there's nothing to see" is the Amargosa Valley west of Death Valley. There is just the highway and mountains in the distance--the emptiness is just magnificent.

Other suggestions: Southern Utah, US Highway 191 down the southeastern edge of Arizona, and following the Rio Grande down to Mission through Big Bend Ranch State Park and Big Bend NP...

    1. The problem is that we don't have a ton of time to get from border to border, and we want to take our time a bit through Washington and Oregon. But like I said, the route shown above is not very detailed. I'm sure we'll adjust as we go along.

    2. Sorry, Amargosa is just east of Death Valley over the border in Nevada.

  5. Why not take Hwy 395 instead. There is so much more to see.

  6. Maybe we'll see you in Nevada City CA?

    1. It is possible. We don't have our route all figured out yet but it will most likely be a couple of weeks before we make it there anyways. Keep and eye out on the blog and remind us again if we are getting close. :-)
