And on Thursday evening I went out and played some pool and had a few beers with an old friend of mine. And didn't get to bed until after 1:30am! Yikes. Good thing I don't do that very often!
Anyhow... just getting caught up on things now.
My mother took us out for lunch on Thursday to a favorite local restaurant... they do Indian food. Lots of spicy stuff! My older sister Elaine joined us.
Mmmm. Yummy.
My older sister Elaine, with my mom.
In the evening, Ruth took the grandkids over to the park...
They love the playground!
Sadie (5) is getting pretty good at the monkey bars!
There she goes!
Cameron (7) is a monkey!
Sadie has no problem riding her bicycle now without training wheels.
Yesterday morning, we went for a walk at Burritt's Rapids, a town south of Ottawa on the Rideau River Canal system. We don't think we have ever been to Burritt's Rapids, despite living more than 40 years in the area! They have a trail called the Tip to Tip Trail that runs on the island of Burritts Rapids from one end of the island to the other. It's only 2 kms each way, so 4 kms (2.6 miles) in total.
Hard to believe the Canada Goose is still a protected species.
In the 1960's there weren't enough of them. Now, there are too many!
Walking across the locks of the Rideau Canal in Burritt's Rapids.
Chester, Cameron, Lindsey, Ruth, and Sadie.
Sadie decided she didn't want to show her face!
Me, with Sadie.
Chester the Rottweiler.
All 135 lbs of him!
Out for a walk.
The swing bridge in Burritt's Rapids, built in 1898.
Ruth, Cameron, and Sadie.
It's a bit slow going hiking with the grandkids, so Ruth and I took off on our own to finish the hike to the end.
At the end of the trail, there is a dam.
And a couple of chairs to relax in!
But we had to get going. We had a lunch to go to! One of the couples we are taking to Mexico this winter lives down on the St. Lawrence seaway near Ingleside, Ontario, and they had offered to take us to lunch since we were already south of the city.
So we met Denise and Bob at the Little Sisterz restaurant in the town of Spencerville. You'll be seeing a lot of Denise and Bob because they'll be spending four months with us this winter! Nice to finally meet them after so many email conversations. They're about the same age as us, and also like to stay active so I'm sure we'll be doing some hikes together.
Kevin, Ruth, Denise, and Bob.
The restaurant gets really good reviews, and the food lived up to the reviews. Our waitress was a little ditzy though! Ruth and Denise each had a glass of wine, but Ruth ordered a 6 oz glass and she brought a 9 oz glass. Not that that's a problem! Then, she forgot to bring Bob's beer. Then half way through lunch, she comes up and says "okay, are we having dessert today?" We were only half way through lunch!
They had a good selection of gluten free stuff, and Ruth orders a chocolate chip cookie, specifically asking if it's gluten free. She takes a big bite, and the waitress comes running up saying the chocolate chip cookie is not gluten free. "You're not going to die or anything, are you?" So she brings two gluten free sugar cookies, and after taking a bite, Ruth finds out that one of them is peanut butter. No big deal, but not her favorite.
Anyhow, minor stuff but it all adds up to ditzy if you ask me!
Great food though, and we loved finally meeting Denise and Bob. Thanks for lunch guys!
The fall colors are late this year.
We are back in Galetta at Ruth's father's place for the weekend.

This is some interesting camping furniture!
And in Canada...
Visiting with family and friends always keep you busy. And klutzy waitress is not too much fun. Glad it all worked out.
ReplyDeleteWe always love coming "home" to visit the family, and yes it will keep us very busy over the next week and a half.
DeleteLove the fall colors...
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely a beautiful time of year in this part of Canada. The colours really are amazing. :-)
DeleteFall colors gorgeous & showing off! Looks like great time visiting all, esp grandchildren. They are growing up so FAST!. Sadie is most advanced 5 yr old on monkey bars....beautiful too! Taught my niece how ride 2 wheel bike on SAME coloured bike! Sounds like interesting lunch with Denise & Bob! GOOD thing you were NOT allergic to peanuts; quite a fright! Hopefully, waitress skills improves, avoids mistakes like that.
ReplyDeleteThe fall colours in this part of Canada are always fantastic because of our beautiful maple trees.
DeleteWe are having a great time with our family, especially our grandchildren. They are at such a fun stage now.
I thought the same thing when I bit into that peanut butter cookie. She didn't seem all that fizzed about it though, maybe she was a new waitress and was still learning the ropes. :-(
Fun filled days with family and friends, hard to top that!
ReplyDeleteVery hard to top that indeed! We love spending this time with our families. :-)
DeleteLovely photos! Fall leaves and sweet grandbabies! I forgot to tell you about a really great documentary called, "Cuba and the Cameraman". Its funny and informative at the same time. You will love the three brothers!
ReplyDeleteI read in your previous post about Sixto Rodriguez (we really enjoyed it) so thought you might like this one as well. Its on NetFlix if you have it.
Thank you very much! We love coming back to Ottawa at this time of the year, the colours are almost always at their finest then. We get to see more of our grandchildren this weekend as well as our kids and other family members. :-)
DeleteKevin has already downloaded the documentary, thank you for suggesting it. We really enjoyed the movie about Sixto Rodriguez so I am sure we will like this one too.
What gorgeous fall foliage! We won't get to see any this year so glad you shared yours. We visited North Carolina relatives recently (which explains how far behind I am in reading your blog posts), but it was too early for much color. Glad to see Sadie riding her bike -- and wearing a helmet! Looks like she is going to need a bigger bike very soon, as her leg is still quite bent at the bottom of the pedal stroke. She'll be graduating to a big girl bike soon! :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, we love visiting Ontario in the fall, the colours are almost always beautiful, I am glad that you enjoyed the pictures.
DeleteYes, Sadie's bike is getting a little small for her but she is still having trouble getting started by herself and if she had a bigger bike it would be even more difficult, plus winter is coming so she won't be riding it much longer. I would expect she will get a "new" one to her in the spring.
