Last day in Valle de Bravo

Yesterday was our last day here in Valle de Bravo. It's been a great stay, and everybody enjoyed it here, just like we knew they would. 12 days is almost not enough time though! Two more days would have been nice.

But, we have reservations for Mexico City for Friday and Saturday night so it's time to move on!

Yesterday morning, we went for another hike with Bob and Denise. This time, to Mirador La Peña which is a short hike right in the city of Valle de Bravo.

Hiking to Mirador La Peña

Always lots of nice views around Valle de Bravo.

Kevin and Bob.

View from the top.

Bob is king of the castle!

Us!

There is almost always a cross at the top of a hill.

Afterwards, we hiked back down and into town.

Three years ago, we had found a butcher in town where we ended up buying a piece of beef tenderloin. It ended up being the most tender meat we have ever had! So we went back to the same butcher to see if he could sell us another one!

At the carneceria.

We ended up spending 520 pesos ($26.50 USD, $36 CAD) on that 1.6 kg (3.5 lb) piece of meat. It will do us for four meals, so it's actually not bad. And, if you do the math it works out to only $10 CAD ($7.50 USD) per pound for filet mignon!

We also bought 1 kg (2.2 lbs) of carne molida (ground beef). It's very lean and freshly ground. But, a little pricey at 200 pesos ($10.20 USD, $13.85 CAD) per kilo.

And, a piece of chorizo sausage.

Then, over to the Super Che where we stocked up on some wine.

In the evening, it was our friend Paco's birthday party. He and Oti made some delicious pozole soup.

Another fiesta!
They are always feeding us!

Oti, Paco, Ruth and Kevin.

Our sixth time visiting Valle de Bravo, and our sixth time totally enjoying ourselves! Looking forward to our return next year!

Today, we are doing a 200 km (124 mile) drive to Tepotzotlan, located only 40 kms (24 miles) north of the center of Mexico City.

  2. Great deal on the tenderloin. At Christmas, all the stores here in NC have it on sale for $10, but I can't attest to it's tenderness, so I'm sure your deal is really a steal!!

    1. We think it was a great deal too! We will actually get more than five meals out of that tenderloin. We had a couple of filet mignon steaks cut from it last night for dinner and they were delicious. :-)
