Minor change in plans

We were supposed to be on our way to the city of Oaxaca this morning, but Sue and Roy are still fighting a bug and we had the doctor back to check on them yesterday evening. So we're going to stay at least one more night, and possibly two. Actually, we'll stay until they feel well enough to drive.

That's the benefit of our schedule. We do have a route and a schedule planned out, but we are flexible enough to be able to make adjustments as we go along. Nothing is written in stone depending on if medical or vehicle problems come up.

And as we learned last year with our vehicle problems, this is not a bad place to be stuck!

Nothing planned for the group yesterday, but we had seen a big hill off in the distance and it looked like it had some trails on it. So Ruth and I set off with Bob and Denise.

We had already walked 5 kms (3 miles) through town to get to this point.

Nopale cactus and the Popocatépetl volcano.

When we had that hour or so rainstorm the other day, it showed up on the Popocatépetl volcano the next morning as snow!

Lots of Nopale cactus.

We think this is a type of poppy.

Looking back at where we came from.

The Malinche volcano off in the distance.

Denise and Ruth.

Iztaccíhuatl volcano.

The taller Popocatépetl volcano is still live.
The smaller Tecajete volcano in the foreground has been long dead.

Popocatépetl volcano.

Both Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl together.

We made our way back down, and met Garth in town for lunch. Then, we stopped at the local market and picked up a few things.

Never a shortage of fresh veggies!

Made it back to the RV park around 2:45pm. We had been gone five hours, but that included stopping in town for lunch. We had done 18.5 kms (11.5 miles)!

Happy hour with the gang.

Not sure what's on the schedule today, although I'm sure some of us will go back into Cholula.

    1. Kevin isn't so fond of nopale, I don't mind it but not in large doses.

    1. We are all hoping that they are feeling better soon, including themselves of course. It isn't fun being sick when you are away like this. We are glad that we have made the trip itself very flexible, it takes the pressure off of them and everyone is enjoying themselves here, so it isn't a bad place to hang around for another day or two.

  6. Ruth and Kevin; You are such classy people. Delaying the departure for the benefit of fellow travellers is so considerate. But having met you in Saskatchewan a few years ago, we understand why. Still enjoying the Blog.

    1. Thank you Barry and Lorrie! We have given ourselves some leeway throughout the trip and because we don't have a schedule that is planned out to a "T" we are able to do this without a problem. Everyone has been super good about this because they know that they would want the same treatment if it were them that was sick.

So glad that you are still following along on the blog with us and that you have been enjoying our adventures.
