Sherman gets another blemish

Another driving day yesterday as we made our way from Camecuaro National Park to Valle de Juárez and the state of Jalisco.

We have eight nights planned at Valle de Juárez, and I had noticed that there was a Walmart in the south end of the small city of Zamora. So I figured the group might like to do some stocking up on things.

But it was a little difficult to get to. We got an early start, hitting the road at 7:00am. I had read online that the Walmart opened at 7:00am.

Yesterday's drive.

We had to do a "returno"... which is essentially a u-turn, but the lane to do it in was very narrow and I misjudged the corner. It was tight, but still I should have made it without an issue. Nobody's fault but my own.

Ouch. Sorry Sherman.

The curb on the left hand side was high... about a foot. And it scraped up against the left rear wheel cover.

Then, into the Walmart where we learned that it didn't open until 8:00am

Everybody got stocked up... including alcohol. Then, we learned that we couldn't checkout with booze until 9:00am! So it was a little longer stop than planned.

In the end, we feel it wasn't worth the extra detour considering that most of what anybody bought is available in the smaller stores here in Valle de Juárez.

Continuing on...

Scenery along the way.

Just a two lane country road.

Very odd that we had a bit of a cloudy day!

Working in the corn fields.

Most of our regular readers know that we have spent a lot of time here at Valle de Juárez. It's one of our favorite places in Mexico. It's just a rural farming town of about 5,000 people. There is nothing touristy about it, and there are very few other gringos.

And, our dog Whiskey is buried at Hacienda Contreras RV Park. That park is now closed, so we stay at Victoria RV Park just down the road.

Here we are!

Everybody all set up.

We got everybody set up, and walked into town. Saturday is market day in Valle de Juárez, but we were a little late. We did buy some fresh blueberries and some honey.

Valle de Juarez.

We stopped in to see Chema at his restaurant El Retiro. We actually went there to have some carnitas for lunch, but again we were late and he was already sold out. He said we could go into the restaurant though!

Three beef tacos and a beer for a total of 61 pesos ($3.20 USD, $4.20 CAD).
We love Mexico!

Another beautiful Valle de Juárez sunset.

We've got lots of stuff planned for the group during our eight nights here. It's going to go by quickly!

Today, they get to experience an old mescal distillery up in the mountains. Not something many other people get to see.

    1. We have been having an amazing time. Sorry that we our paths won't cross this year. You will need to keep your eyes on the blog for the month of June because that is when we will announce if we are going to do another trip next winter or not.

  4. It's not a blemish, it's just the cost of doing business. We have a few dings and dents on our MH too, but with all the fun we have had with it, we consider those dings badges of honor! ;c)

  5. Ahhhh, one of Doug's favourite spots!! I believe he wanted the family to adopt him, right? It is such an epic opportunity to really see how this drink is made the old school way. Enjoy!!!

    1. We know what Doug means! Every time we go up into the mountains to Don Jesus's place he asks us when are we going to build our little house up there on his property. He said the very first time that we were there that he would give us a little chunk of land to build a place on, for free but when we decide not to live there anymore then the house would be his. We could handle a deal like that. The mountains all around there are fantastic and so is the hiking.

It is always a wonderful experience at his mezcal place.

    1. No, we will not be coming to Laguna del Tule. We did our beach time when we were in the southern section of Mexico. The rest of our trip will be seeing more of the interior of Mexico.

    1. We have a whole week here, so sometime during that time we will definitely make it over to Whiskey and her tree. There is no way we would come here and not stop in to see it!

    1. We don't either but he is already missing two wheel covers so having a dented one is too tragic!

    2. When I got to that point on our old RV I just ditched the wheel covers and cleaned the wheels well.

    3. I did eventually buy a set of stainless steel wheel liners for I think $215US, which I thought was cheap for that amount of what I can only describe as *bling*.

    4. Lordy, there's a lot of ways to screw up an RV. And more being invented every day! (Ask me how I know.)

    5. Sherman's old wheels would not clean up very well and we really do need to have rear covers because of the valve stem extensions. As I mentioned if that is one of the biggest "injuries" that we have on Sherman, then it really isn't a huge tragedy, he will live! ;-)
