Most parts of Canada only get four months of good weather per year, so we are not surprised by this at all. But, we had our fingers crossed for better than this. We got spoiled by a couple of decent days last week just after we arrived here, but sure enough, the cold has returned and it looks like it's not going to get much better over the week and a half we have remaining here.
At least the sun is trying this morning. But yesterday, we actually had snow!
Holy crap, it's snowing!
Even the car is warning me that it's too cold outside!
Yesterday, the high temperature was 4C (39F).
Anyhow, back to the topic at hand. We've had quite a few people mention to us that we are going to be in Australia during their winter. And yes, we realize that.
But winter in Australia is far warmer than winter in Canada. Plus, Australia is a big country with a lot of different climate zones.
Yes, some areas of Australia get snow... and they even have ski areas that are open for skiing between June and September. This is the area in the mountains east of Melbourne. But we will be avoiding those areas!
Melbourne is the coldest city in the winter in Australia. When we arrive there on May 18th, the average high temperature at that time of year is 17C (62F) and we are totally fine with that.
By the time the middle of winter arrives in late June and early July, we should be up between Sydney and Brisbane... where the average high temperatures at that time of year are between 17C (62F) to 21C (70F). And we are totally fine with that too!
Sure, we're expecting that we'll get some days where the highs are only 10C (50F), but that's still okay weather for hiking and exploring, and we'll have a heater in the RV the same way we do in Sherman.

Yes, there is a lot to see in Australia!
Which is why we're going to stick to such a small part of it. In fact, I came across another map online where an RV'er has spent four years just doing the routes shown below.
It's a big country, with lots to see!

A few different Intex Swimming Pools are at record low prices today only. This one is approximately one hour set up time and it's ready for water. 4 ft deep. Comes with pump and filter.
And in Canada...
I think that time of year would be best, it gets way too hot to see most of it in their summer - plus you have the added fires they've had the last few years in summer. Plus, less tourists!(hopefully)

DeleteYep, until you see it in perspective like this it is really hard for some people to really realize the size of the country. We are so looking forward to this trip, it is definitely going to be quite the adventure. :-)

ReplyDeleteYes, it really does put Australia's size into perspective. It is true, coming from Canada we totally understand how much space that covers, but there sure are lots of people out there that don't understand the size and how much traveling that would entail.
