Missing the sunshine

During the four months we were in Mexico, almost every single day was blue sky and sunshine. Now that we have crossed the border, it seems the weather changed immediately. It hasn't even been a week since we crossed, but we are missing the sunshine already!

However, our batteries and solar panels are still keeping us powered up.

The site that we are enjoying here at Lake Corpus Christi State Park is a non power, and non sewer site... water only. For that, we get to enjoy a lake side view for only $10 USD ($13.70 CAD) per night.

Sherman, in site #95 at Lake Corpus Christi State Park.

We enjoy being self sufficient for our electricity. We actually never have a need to be plugged in. We're not air conditioner people, and prefer to be outside in the shade.

Our Trojan T-105 batteries turned nine years old last month. They appear to be still going strong!

And our three 80 watt solar panels seem to be putting out enough juice to charge up the batteries, even when it's overcast like it has been the last few days.

By the way, I noticed this morning a record low price on a 100 watt RV solar panel. Never seen them this cheap... they have really dropped in price.

Yesterday, it was overcast for the morning but things started to clear after lunch. We actually saw a hazy sun for a couple of hours on and off during the afternoon. Temperature got up to 28C (82F).

We went out for a bike ride in the morning... only for 10 kms (6 miles) or so. We rode over to the dam, and there is a conservation area near there with some trails.

Out for a bike ride.

Ruth, enjoying all the wildflowers!

They were actually amazing... the photo doesn't do it justice.

Back at Sherman, I had an afternoon nap, and then we played a few games of backgammon and then just sat and did some reading while enjoying the view.

The view from my chair!

Really enjoying our relax time here. Today, maybe we'll get the kayak out and go for a paddle. But first, another bike ride!

  1. Here in Phoenix it's sunshine 99.9 percent of the time. We enjoyed a few rainy days in December/January. We love rain & overcast days. We have no extreme weather i.e. snow, hurricane, tornados, earthquakes, mud slides & flooding (maybe occasionally). We love Arizona :-) Safe travels.

    1. They look so beautiful along the sides of the roads. We have seen some bluebonnets mixed in there with them as well.

  4. You deserve a rest after leading a caravan for 4 months! And you have some busy travelling ahead of you. Take the down time when you can get it :)

  7. Yes, nice to see the wildflowers. I just finished reading a book about bees (Listening to the Bees by Mark L. Winston) and one of the reasons that bees are declining is that there are fewer pollen-producing plants.

    1. Well I don't think the bees are missing any flowers here. There are literally tons of them around, it really is beautiful. :-)

    1. We thought so too, and because we were there, we were to far away from shops that we never spent any money either. ;-)
