So, with overcast skies we set out on a morning walk to do some bird watching.
But at least the temperature was pleasant... at 72F (22C), even with a bit of a breeze it was good for walking.
The first thing we spotted was this broad-winged hawk.
Same bird, different angle.
We really enjoy coming to these state parks during the week when there is hardly anybody around. It will be interesting to see how busy it gets on Friday night. We're heading out on Saturday morning either way.
Lots of day use picnic tables.
Scenery along the way.
Nobody around.
Lots of wildflowers.
There's Sherman on the other side of the lake.
Long fishing pier.
An Egyptian goose.
Hmm.
Funny lookin' motorcycle!
A few RV's in the water and electric sites.
Mostly northern licence plates!
More flowers.
Believe it or not, this is a female red-winged blackbird.
We never would have guessed!
Mr. Cardinal.
Caracara.
Sherman loves his campsite!
We ended up doing 6.4 kms (4.0 miles) and were back to Sherman by lunchtime. Good thing, because it started spitting with rain and it did that on and off all afternoon. We never did get out for a bike ride.
But, I did get an afternoon nap in!
And then a few games of backgammon and another short walk in the evening.
Spotted this deer around dusk.
Today is also starting off overcast, but it's supposed to begin to clear before lunch and then some sunshine in the afternoon... and getting hot. Up to 89F (32C) this afternoon!
We're off to do a bike ride before it gets too warm!

ReplyDeleteThank you Lynnette! :-)
DeleteReckon you have the nicest spot by far, a huge bonus when you don't need electric and can park wherever you want.
ReplyDeleteWe think so too! Unfortunately not all the Texas State Parks will allow you to stay in the non-hookup sites. The one we are at now said that if you are in an RV you have to have the serviced sites, no ifs, ands or buts about it. :-(
