First stop, Los Angeles!

Yesterday we returned our car rental to the south end of the city of Calgary. Then, we walked the 5 kms (3 miles) back to downtown and wandered around for a bit.

The weather was still not great, but at least it didn't rain.

Not many people around on a Sunday morning.

Heading downtown.

The Calgary tower used to dominate the skyline.
Not any more.

The old city hall is under cover while it is being renovated.

Hmm. We're not sure!

The new city hall.

Calgary gophers.

Downtown Calgary.

It was too cold outside and we were getting chilly. We walked over to the new library, but it doesn't open until noon on Sundays. Still, we waited around. We had heard it was quite something.

The new public library in Calgary.

Lots of construction going on too.

So we eventually made it into the library... and we're not in there 10 minutes when the fire alarm goes off and they evacuate the building!

Fire trucks arrived.

And about five minutes after they got everybody out, they let everybody back in again!

Inside Calgary's new library.

They were doing some maintenance on the light rail lines downtown, so we had to walk about two kms to get to a station that had trains running.

Another view looking back at downtown.

We paid $3.40 CAD ($2.50 USD) for a ticket to take the light rail train for about 20 minutes. Then, another 5 km (3 mile) walk to get back to our AirBnb.

By the time most of you read this, we will be either in the air to Los Angeles, or already on the ground in Los Angeles.

We'll try and post updates to our facebook page a little more often if you want to follow along there at https://www.facebook.com/TravelwithKevinAndRuth/ or Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/travelwithkevinandruth/

  1. Love the Gophers. Have yet to visit Calgary but judging by your pics we won't schedule it for this time of year !

    1. I think generally the weather is not bad at this time of year, however this year not so much, but that speaks for most of Canada this spring.

    1. Yes, they do sort of! You would need awfully long arms or a long mallet in order to play that game with these ones though!

  3. You can be guaranteed better weather from here on out! I am very interested in Singapore - an exceedingly clean and safe city (and sometimes expensive). Looking forward to your tales!

    1. Well, at least until we get to Australia, where is could be cool and overcast and rainy. Hopefully "their" winter will be nice for us. :-)

We are interested in Singapore as well, definitely on the expensive side though.

  4. The library is beautiful! I hope Ottawa does something as nice. The gophers were hilarious, where were they?

    1. It is a beautiful library and well used. There were a lot of people there on a miserable Sunday afternoon.

The gophers are located at Olympic Plaza across from Calgary City Hall.
