This is winter?

Sure, we had a couple of chilly nights over the past week as a cold spell went through the area we are in in south eastern Australia. After all, it is winter here!

But yesterday and today have made up for it.

So we went out to enjoy the beautiful weather. Our hosts Terrie and Pat took us to a nearby nature reserve, and then down to the coast for a walk on the beach.

First stop was the Bald Hills Nature Conservation Reserve.

They had recently built a new bird watching hut.

Unfortunately there were no worthwhile bird watching photos to be had today.

And then we went to Waratah Bay near the coastal village of Walkerville...

It's a beautiful beach.

There is an old lime kiln located here, but it has been abandoned since 1926.

The temperature Friday afternoon got up to 20C (68F). This is winter? The chilly nights this past week were quickly forgotten.

We had planned on leaving Terrie and Pat's today and making our way to "The Prom", which is what the locals call Wilson's Promontory National Park. But it was 2:30pm and we hadn't even had lunch yet! So they invited us to stay parked in the neighbour's vacant driveway for another night which we were quick to accept.

What a great day we had. But, just like the deep cold temperatures of the past week were an anomaly, so were the pleasant highs of yesterday and today.

Tomorrow, it looks like things are back to average. Highs of around 14C (58F) and lows around 9C (48F) which is exactly what we had planned on experiencing at this time of year.
