Glad that we look after each other so well

Woke up and put the solar panel out right away to collect as much of that free electricity as we could. Gotta make hay when the sun is shining. Or if no hay, at least some electricity!

Across the bay, I was watching some people interested in something on the shore line. This harbor has a resident seal population, and they were watching them work their way up onto the rocks to enjoy the warmth of the sun.

We left the camper to recharge it's batteries in the morning sun, and we went for a walk.

Walking back, we spotted a bunch of birds making a commotion in the middle of the bay. It was a seal, trying to eat something, but whatever it was it was too big to swallow, and the sea birds kept coming in and picking at whatever he couldn't get into his mouth! It was quite something to watch. Even a big sea eagle swooped down at one point to try and grab whatever it was the seal was trying to eat.

Eventually, the seal managed to swallow his breakfast.

Narooma is a really pretty area.

Just as we park in the most scenic places we can find, boats do the same.

But, I have ZERO ambition to ever own a boat. I would travel on one, or crew on one... but never own one.

It all looks very idyllic in the photo above (and below) but someone once told me that a boat is just a hole in the water into which you throw money!

We stood and watched the surfers for a little while...

And then we drove across the harbor to where the seals are resting.

Along the way, we stopped for fuel. Shame we weren't totally empty because it was the cheapest price we've seen since we arrived in Australia at the end of May. We filled up with diesel fuel at $1.349 per liter ($1.23 CAD per liter, or $3.52 USD per gallon).

I asked the girl why it was so cheap here, and she said there is a little price war going on right now. Good! We are quite happy to take advantage of that!

The town of Narooma is located directly across from Montague Island. The island is 9 kms (5.5 miles) from the mainland.

Montague Island, as seen from the shore.

The zoom lens on our Nikon P900 camera continually amazes me. Want to see the lighthouse on Montague Island?

Zoomed in on Montague Island.

We are off to see the seals.

Ruth, at the Australia Rock.
They call it that because the opening looks like Australia!

This fellow has been eating too much fish!

Just out of the water.

Zzzzzz.

Is there a dentist in town?

Zzzzzz.

Just another deserted Australian beach.

Fantastic rock formations.

Ruth really wanted to go visit that sea cave.
But, too much water, even at low tide.

The wind had picked up a bit by the coast, so decided to head inland a bit to a State Forest. We found a picnic ground where we could stay overnight.

Yep, this will do for a night!

Ruth cooked a roast leg of lamb this evening. It was actually a half leg. Lamb is fairly cheap here in Australia compared to what it is in Canada.

The meat is ready for the oven.

And now it's ready to eat!
Delicious!

Out boondocking in the middle of nowhere in a little truck camper, Ruth serves up a delicious roast dinner. So glad that we look after each other so well!

And in Canada...

  1. Do you ever see Manuka honey? It is from Aus./N.Z. and very expensive in Canada.

    1. Haven't seen any yet but we also haven't looked for it. We will check when we do our shopping to see if we can find it and how much it is.

  2. We were traveling in Nakusp, BC ( east of Veron) with our MH and tow car. I let the tow car get near empty and had to pay 1.47. The cheapest gas I found in BC was 1.32. We enjoy your blog.

    1. Looks like fuel prices here aren't too much different from British Columbia but then again British Columbia has higher prices compared to the majority of Canada.

    1. As Kevin said, we would like to travel in one for a while but we don't want to own one! :-)

  5. I think the secret of boat ownership is not biting off more than you can chew. Which you have demonstrated with the boat that you actually own right now, Kevin. As I recall, maintenance on that boat mostly consists of pumping it up before you use it...

    1. Lol, yep we keep our "boat" within our price range! A blow up kayak isn't too expensive and so far it hasn't cost us more than what we paid for it. ;-)

    1. Thanks Emily! Lol, I don't think we ever thought we would see a seal's mouth open this close before. ;-)
