When we are sleeping, we are fine... even if it gets down to the lower end of the scale.
But when it is time to get up... we don't want to!
This camper is well built, but it was built in Queensland (the hotter area!) by a guy who never intended to camp in the southern winter cold. So it has no insulation. And it has a lot of air circulation.
But, we have a full size propane oven.
We have learned that we have two choices in the morning when it is chilly. Either get up and pack up and drive for a little while... or turn the oven on!
Saturday morning, we turned the oven on. And fortunately, although it had rained quite hard overnight for a few hours, it was bright and sunny when we got up. The sun also quickly warms things up.
The temperature was cooler on Saturday and there was a cool breeze for most of the day. But, there was also clear blue skies and sunshine. We'll take it!
We did a detour down to the summer tourist town of Mallacoota. Not many people around at this time of year though.
They have a 130 km (81 mile) coastal walking trail called the Mallacoota Trail. We parked at Bekta Beach and headed off on a short walk.
Nobody around.
Odd rock formations.
Don't forget, you can click on any photo to make it full screen.
We had done about 1.5 kms on the beach itself, clambering over rocks when we had to. But then we stuck to the trail itself that goes through a forested area with occasional spectacular views of the ocean.
Before we knew it, we had done 4 kms (2.5 miles). But of course we still had to go back the other way!
That big hole beside where I was standing is a sea cave.
I couldn't find a way to get a good photo of it!
Scenery along the way.
This huge freighter was just a blip on the horizon.
But I used our 83x optical zoom to get a better view!
I love the versatility of our camera.
It looks pretty rough out there!

If there are flowers blooming, its not really winter!
The coastal path goes through this brush forest.
Scenery along the way.
What a beautiful day.
Despite the wind and the cooler temperatures, it was a gorgeous day. We had a really good walk.
The bay at Mallacoota.
We had checked out a few overnight possibilities, but because it's such a touristy place in the summer there were a lot of "no camping" signs everywhere. At this time of year I don't think we would have been bothered at all, but we don't camp where there are clear signs saying not to. We would have been fine at the local airport though, but we decided to head back to the free campground at Genoa.
When we got there, there were three other vehicles. Not busy, because this area could easily support 25 vehicles.
One guy sleeping in his passenger minivan, one couple in a travel trailer, and this couple trying to set up their tent trailer...
It did not look like they were enjoying their camping experience!
We have to admit that while watching them, we decided we were pretty happy with our lot in life with Bundy and Joyce! We park up and hop out of the cab and right into the camper... ready to go! It was windy, and these people have to set up their tent camper, and then try and stay warm in it. Yes, there are benefits and drawbacks to every style rig, but we are happy with our choice. I hope they are happy with theirs!

Nice price drop on the Progressive Industries Hardwired 30 Amp RV Surge and Electrical Protector. And if you check the 3rd party suppliers, there is one that has it for a couple of dollars cheaper.
And in Canada...
Beautiful Beaches and Scenery along your hike.
ReplyDeleteWe tried the different ways of Camping before getting into our present RV.
Be Safe and Enjoy more touring.
It's about time.
Thank you! It is really a beautiful coastline along this stretch.
DeleteWe really have only been tent campers up until we got Sherman. Although when I was a kid our family had a truck camper that we took out west for a month. We have never tried travelling in a travel trailer or a 5th wheel. It is nice that there is something out there for everyone. :-)
