This morning was July the 1st here in Australia. It's Canada Day! Except, it wasn't yet Canada Day in Canada! It won't be July the 1st until tomorrow in Canada.
Isn't it fun trying to wrap your head around all of this time change stuff?
We got up at 7:30am or so and drove the short distance into the town of Foster. Nice little town, and we went for a walk to get some morning exercise.
Scenery along the way.
This parrot was waving at us!
A nice little green space in Foster.
On the main drag, (Foster is only 1,200 people!) there was a covered rest area with a bit of seating. They had a water station...
Drinking fountain, bottle refill station, and dog water station all in one!
Notice where it says "Woof!" so the dogs will know where to get their water!
Nice mural.
We carried on up into the hills to the Agnes Falls...
Beautiful scenery along the way.
Tough to get a nice view of the falls.
They go a long way down, but not the easiest to view or get a photo.
From there, we went to see the new (opened in Dec 2018) long pier at Port Welshpool. Nicely done rebuild of the original pier, but really hard to justify the $11 million taxpayers dollars spent for the relatively minor amount of tourism it will bring to the area.
A nice display of the history of the original pier.
The original pier was built with a curve in it to handle rail transport that never happened.
Looking back at Bundy and Joyce in the parking area.
I had found a backroad route that looked like it went to a park area on the coast. I figured it must be little used because I couldn't find much reference to it online. But, we like exploring the back roads, so we set off to see what was there.
Really? No overtaking or passing?
Too funny. This single lane back road might get 20 vehicles per day. Yet they saw fit to put up a sign warning against overtaking or passing on the narrow bridge.
We made it to a track that led into a farmer's drive. As we were getting turned around, the farmer pulled up on the same road.
He asked if we were lost.
In actual fact, he asked "what have you lost?"
I think that's Australian. English is not always English!
Anyhow, I explained we were trying to find a place to park for the night, and I showed him a map on the phone of where we were trying to get to.
He says with a smile "that's part of my farm and there's nothing down there but cow shit mate."
Too funny. He was really good natured about the whole thing, and we got turned around and headed back towards the town of Port Albert. I had read that Port Albert has a free RV parking area for self contained RVs.
They are very specific.
At this time of year, we are the only one's here.
At least we were when we arrived. Shortly after dark, two more vehicles pulled in.
Still, it should be a very quiet night.

Great deal on the KitchenAid Professional Stand Mixer.
And in Canada...
Good deal on this Acer 25" HD Monitor
Still lots of beautiful scenery to see. Wasn't it just yesterday that you arrived there? LOL.
ReplyDeleteIf only there were more free Overnight Parking areas in North America.
Be Safe and Enjoy your adventure.
It's about time.
Yep, there is definitely still lots to see and we won't get a chance to see it all on this trip. We are however enjoying the trip, and yes the time has flown by.
DeleteWe have found quite a few communities in the western part of the US that are very RV friendly and have dump stations and campsites that are free or next to nothing in cost. Too bad there weren't more that felt this way.
One sign says "pets on leash at all times", and the other says "no pets". Same spot? Hopefully not...that would be a bit confusing, especially for us dog owners. Glad you found a nice spot, and to be the only ones, sweet!
ReplyDeleteLol, we hadn't even noticed that, too funny! They obviously allow people to walk dogs through the park as we saw lots of people doing it, so no reason why they wouldn't let someone in a camper have a dog would be beyond us.
