Back at the beginning of May, we began testing out a new advertising partner for this blog. At the time, most of the response was positive. The ads were kind of overwhelming though... and because you were so used to the clean look that I had given the blog without the advertising it was a bit of a shock at the time.
So now, four months have passed and I thought you deserved an update.
The entire ad program is very "hands off". All of the placements and settings were done by the company itself, so I did not have to do anything.
The company normally deals with larger websites and blogs. Our reader statistics are at the low end of the scale for them, but I still have a dedicated ad manager that I can speak to when I see problems or have questions.
So, what's the verdict?
Well, people are resistant to change but I think that the initial shock of seeing the ads has likely worn off by now. Statistically, we see no difference in readership that could be attributed to the ads. Essentially, our regular readers continue to check in with us whether the ads are there or not! And transient readers who happen to come here from a google search or a link on another site would not know the ads are there until they actually arrive, so we still benefit from that as well.
The best part about the whole program is that it involves ZERO work on my part. It is "passive" income because it is cash flow that we receive on a regular basis that takes no effort to maintain.
After four months, we are getting our first payment of $1,347 USD ($1,786 CAD) at the end of this month.
So, for $446 CAD per month, or approximately $5,352 CAD per year, I'd say that it's totally worth it.
Thanks for sticking with us... this money goes directly towards our travels so that we can continue to tell you about the amazing things there are to see in the world!

ReplyDeleteThey approached us. But, I'm sure it can't hurt if you approach them. The company name is Ezoic.
DeleteI'm good with ad's if it helps in your travel budget, I barely noticed them.
ReplyDeleteThanks Karyn-Lee! :-)
DeleteEvery other blog has ads. As long as it doe not involve one sentence and flip the page, find the next sentence on next page lost in a million ads. I am sure you know what I am talking about! I love your posts! I do use the handy dandy link you provide on facebook
ReplyDeleteYep, we know exactly want you mean and we don't like those either. We are glad that you like that quick little link that we include in our daily facebook post. :-)
DeleteI don’t even really see the ads. $446 a month is good passive income . Go for it!

ReplyDeleteLol, thanks Paul and Marti! :-P
DeleteUm, TOTALLY worth it! Good for you guys. I admit it was a bit much at first, but then I just got used to 'x-ing' the one banner out (really only one that gets in the way).
ReplyDeleteThank you Janis, glad that it hasn't stopped you from reading along. :-) And, I know exactly which ad you are talking about, it's the one that I keep x-ing out as well.
DeleteI'm all for it if it helps keep your blogs coming to us!
ReplyDeleteThank you Jerry, that means a lot to us. :-)
DeleteI am interested in what you are telling me. With ads or without. I am happy for you that you get extra money for your travels.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Renate. We are happy that you like our blog posts and that you find them interesting. :-)
DeleteAre they the adds that’s clothes and shoes.M&M direst and 5 herbs for Weak unite flow. Do we need to click them for you to make money?
ReplyDeleteThe ads are different for everyone but yes, those would be the ads. No, you do not need to click them, only do so if it is something that you are interested in.
DeleteAnything to add to your wallet is good. If people want to read your consistently good content, they will put up with the ads. I have no issue with them :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Cheapchick. :-)
DeleteYour content is good so I don't notice the ads.
