Ruth and I set off at just after 10:00am to do some exploring. This place has so much natural beauty, and so many different trails to explore that we could spend a week here.
Just after we set off, we bumped into Bob and Denise and their dog Scarlett out doing some hiking.
Another blue sky sunny day.
Pine flycatcher.
Beautiful area.
The dog came with us the whole way.
We called him Blackie.
Blackie posed with us at the waterfall.
He sat to take a break in the sun.
Hm. We have to cross this river.
Pretty spot.
We made it across the river at a spot where it was very shallow. Didn't even get a soaker! Then, we came in the back way behind the "stone garden". There, we found even more of the strange rock structures where we had been the other day.
Wow. A forest of weird rocks!
This one is really weird!
Back at Sherman.
We didn't get back to Sherman until about 12:30pm. We figured we had done over 10 kms (6.2 miles).
We made made arrangements to meet up with whoever wanted to meet up at a small restaurant in the town. We walked up there and 11 of us had lunch. Didn't take any photos, but they made the best gorditas! Everyone was really pleased. The lunch bill for Ruth and I including one soft drink was 60 pesos ($4.15 CAD, $3.15 USD).
I had a short afternoon nap, and Ruth did some computer work. Then it was time for another happy hour campfire... and a full moon!
Full moon rising.
Today, we are off to the beach! We're going to drive down the Espinazo del Diablo (Devil's Backbone) highway to Mazatlan, and drop from 8,400' to sea level.

And in Canada...
How do the “owned dogs” travelling with your group get along with the strays?
ReplyDeleteThose are some seriously cool rock formations.
We only have one dog on the trip with us and she gets along really well with most of the stray dogs that we come across, in fact there are many times that she has a ball playing with them and she is 10 years old. And it isn't only stray dogs, we come across dogs that are owned by people, they just have the run of the land many times.
DeleteThat dog was definitely looking for some company.
ReplyDeleteThose Rock formations have been Unbelievable. Most were formed by changing land masses Millions of years ago and then the Wind perfects their beauty.
Be Safe and Enjoy the beach.
It's about time.
These dogs are so used to people coming to the park and then just following them, I doubt they are without company very often.
DeleteYes, the rock formations are pretty crazy here, we really loved seeing them and climbing them. Nature is so beautiful!
Must be tempting to adopt a dog.
ReplyDeleteYes, sometimes it is very tempting but we aren't in the market for one and neither is anyone else in the group. We can get our doggie fix and then move on to the next place where we know there will be more unfortunately and there is just no way that we could adopt them all!
DeleteMarvelous looking campsite - I swear you could be in NEW Mexico except with a warmer temperature. Have fun for the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteIt was a fantastic campsite, we all loved it here. You might be surprised by the temperatures here, it was definitely cold at night at this time of the year hovering around the freezing mark but the day time temperatures were perfect for hiking and biking at around 18C (64f).
DeleteGreat scenery! Have a safe travel day...
ReplyDeleteThank you Peter! :-)
DeleteSome of those rocks remind me of the Chiricahua's in SE AZ. I agree, you could easily spend a week or more in those beautiful mountains.
ReplyDeleteYes, we can certainly see why, the rock formations are quite similar. We haven't been to Chiricahua National Monument before, now it looks like we will have to put this on our list of places to visit in Arizona, it looks beautiful.
DeleteMore beautiful shots! I especially like the ones of the Pine Flycatcher, the one right below it looking down on the water, and the rock formations. I guess they are hoodoos, like in the southwest US? Otherwordly indeed. Beautiful photography of a special spot!
ReplyDeleteThank you Emily! It really is a beautiful area with lots of interesting things to see. We will definitely be back here again one day, and stay at least 4 or 5 days next time.
DeleteThey are similar to hoodoos but made from a different type of rock base. Definitely a special place for sure!
