Merry Christmas from Mexico!

We had a great Christmas Eve yesterday!

It started off with a stop at the shrimp taco place again where everybody enjoyed an early lunch. Then we did a long walk through the town of Mazamitla to the waterfall. Ruth and I have been there five or six times before, but it's always fun to show it off to new people.

Then in the evening, we had a party!

Have a look at some photos...

Mazamitla is well decorated for the holidays.

Lots of people enjoying the town.
We have never seen it so busy!

The walk to the waterfall takes you through a private residential area with lots of nice properties.

Quite a few people walking to the waterfalls.

Here come some of our group.

It's a pretty area.

Pretty flowers.

Nice "cabin"!

The waterfall.

Can you see the person standing at the top?

Lots of people getting their photo taken at the bottom.

Looking back at the church in Mazamitla.

Lots of people in the central area.

Larry, Martha, Denise, and Bob.

Mazamitla.

The guy who owns the RV Park also owns a restaurant. He and his family put on a Christmas meal for us here at the campground. For 300 pesos ($20.80 CAD, $15.80 USD) per person including tequila! There was chicken, shrimp, rice, birria, tostados with guacamole... a real feast!

We passed around the "Viva Mexico" hat!...

Roger!

Denise!

Owenita!

Martha!

Larry!

Jim!

Sue!

Uli.

Heinz!

Mona!

The couple with Mona are locals and friends of the family. They are in their early 80's and had 13 children, 3 of whom have already passed away. They have 38 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren!

Garth doesn't drink tequila... but he'll have a coke!

Garth, Jim, Roy, Sue, Uli, Heinz, Kevin.

Mona, Molly, Scott, Larry, Martha, Owenita, Aron, Bob, Denise, Roger.

A good time was had by all!

Today, we are having a pot luck Christmas Brunch for the group at 11:00am, and Margarita Happy Hour at 4:30pm.

Hope you all enjoy your Christmas Day where ever you happen to be. Merry Christmas from all of us in Mexico!

  1. Merry Christmas to all. The first cabin in the photo reminds of the B&B in the movie 'Coyote Lake' a thriller movie....about a Latino woman and her daughter set in Mexico near Texas. What a cute little village and gorgeous cabins.

  4. What would be served as a Christmas dinner at a normal Mexican family home?

    1. The normal Mexican family would celebrate Christmas on Christmas eve and one of the most popular foods for the season would be tamales but as times change so do the customs, especially with so many families coming back from the US for the holiday season.

  8. Haha, your photos of everyone sipping the tequila made me laugh -- some unlikely tequila drinkers there! I like it in margaritas, but not straight. Love the pretty houses on your hike to the waterfall, and the Christmas decor in town. So pretty and festive. Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas Day!

    1. Lol, we had fun taking those pictures and I think just about everyone partook in the tequila drinking but I think most had it mixed with Squirt, Coca cola or ponche (a Christmas fruit punch that is served hot). Margaritas were our "Happy Hour" special for Christmas Day. :-)

Mazamitla, is such a beautiful town especially at Christmas time, they really decorate it up well. It is a very popular destination for families and people from Guadalajara.

      Merry Christmas to you Emily.
