And, we wanted to arrive before 2:00pm. Our friends Barb and Sal had told us that the church was doing a fundraiser and there would be a fiesta going on with lots of inexpensive homemade local food.
Sounds like fun to us!
On the road towards the mountains.
Looks like clear sailing!
We figured that at 8:15am on a Sunday morning things would be pretty quiet.
Scenery along the way.
More scenery.
Uh oh...traffic!
This is a narrow two lane road that goes through a low mountain pass to Ameca. It can get busy with sugar cane trucks during the week because there is both a rum distillery and a processing plant in Ameca.
I figured on a Sunday morning, things would be pretty quiet, but we did get stuck behind a backhoe and a dump truck, but just for a little while.
Pigs off to market.
Nice view going up the pass.
And coming down the other side.
Hey, there's Garth!
One of our group, Garth, hasn't been with us for a few days. He went down to Puerto Vallarta to visit his sister and get a mechanical problem looked after. He met us at an intersection yesterday and rejoined the group.
The town of Ameca.
As we got close to Lake Chapala, there are a lot of greenhouses.
They grow a lot of rasberries, blackberries, and strawberries in this area.
Mandarin oranges for sale.
2 kgs for 25 pesos (1 lb for $0.40 CAD, or $0.30 USD).
Chickens and pigs for sale too.
We stopped for gas across from where the mandarin guy was. The gas attendant had a few mandarins on top of the pump and was giving them away to customers.
We made our way safely through the congested town of San Luis Soyatlan.
And up into the mountains near Mazamitla.
Sherman, parked up at Valle de Juarez.
We have spent a lot of time in this area over the years. For us, the weather is perfect and there is a lot to do here. The locals are welcoming and they don't treat you like a tourist.
We had an early happy hour.
And then we walked into town.
This house has a huge poinsettia plant.
There was a band playing in front of the church.
They were a little loud!
Food was cheap!
You would have a hard time spending 40 pesos ($2.80 CAD, $2.15 USD) per person. We were stuffed! Tacos, pazole, sopes... yum!
Later on, the kids had fun with piñatas.
Another great day in Mexico.
Yesterday's drive, 210 kms (130 miles).

Enjoy your stay at Valle de Juarez and a very Merry X-Mas to you and the whole group!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! We have no doubt that we will enjoy our time here, we always do. :-)
DeleteWe will pass on your Christmas greetings to the rest of the group, and we hope that you have a Merry Christmas too.
Isn't Whiskey's tree at Valle de Juarez? I wonder how big it's gotten :)
ReplyDeleteYes, this is where we buried Whiskey but it was at the other campground. We went and saw her and her tree last February and the tree is really big now. You can see it in this post. www.travelwithkevinandruth.com/2019/02/a-visit-to-whiskeys-tree-and-fiesta.html I have no doubt that we will be back to visit her again this time as well. :-)
DeleteEnjoy your stay there and Merry Christmas to you both - as well as the rest of your RV Caravan!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much and we will pass on your greetings to the rest of the group. We are going to have another great visit here in Valle de Juarez, we love it here and it looks like the rest of the group does as well.
DeleteWe hope you have a Merry Christmas as well. :-)
Merry Christmas, Kevin and Ruth! Looks like you'll be spending it in one of your favorite spots in Mexico. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Emily and we hope that you have a Merry Christmas too. And yes, we are happy to be celebrating Christmas here in Valle de Juarez. It is definitely one of our most favourite places to visit in Mexico. :-)
DeleteLove the pictures. So scenic. Merry Christmas, Kevin and Ruth and the entire group. Thanks for looking after those older folk. This group has brought them so much joy. I'm glad we are able to be a part of it from Upstate NY.
ReplyDeleteSo glad that you enjoyed the pictures, yes it was a scenic drive. We are assuming this is Eric, and yes Sue and Roy are having a fantastic time with us once again. They are a pleasure to have on the trip, no complaining ever and they take everything in and love trying all the different foods and ice creams, lol!
DeleteTake care and Merry Christmas. We will be sure to pass along your Christmas greetings to the rest of the group. :-)
Glad to see there is now a rv spot in Valle de Juarez. Wanted to go to that area, but could never get the straight reliable facts of the long ago closed, not closed rv park next to Pemex station, so we didn't venture there.
ReplyDeleteThere has been RV parking here since 2008. Yes, the RV Park next to the Pemex is now closed, but Victoria RV Park just down the road has been available since then.
