There is one larger grocery store here, but almost everything is available if you know where to go to find the smaller shops.
For example, there is a cheese store here that we never knew about...
Weighing out some cheese for us.
Most Mexican cheese is very mild in flavor, so it was a nice treat to find some with a bite to it!
And of course our Saturday carnita stop.
We get take out and have them for lunch.
Ruth found a puppy to cuddle.
5 weeks old. She sure is a cutie.
Scenery along the way.
Here is this week's take!

1/4 kg chorizo sausage
Cheese
1 Jicama
2 Grapefruits
1 Cantaloupe
4 stalks of Celery
2 Peppers
1/2 bag of Green Beans
4 Limes
Total cost for everything was 392 pesos ($27 CAD, 21 USD).
Ruth and I haven't had the bikes out since we've been here, so we went for a bike ride after lunch and Jim joined us.
There are a few little villages around the lake.
Relaxing in the plaza in Ojo de Agua.
We had never been this way, so we weren't sure what the road was going to be like. After Ojo de Agua, it turned into a dirt track.
A little bumpy at times.
In the distance, the town of El Sabino.
Jim took this photo of Ruth and I.
This parrot eats hot red peppers. He is holding one with his foot.
We stopped in the town of Paso de Piedra and had an ice cream.
Back to the RV Park, we had done 17 kms (10.5 miles). Felt good to get out on the bikes, and perfect weather for doing so. Sunshine with a high of about 20C (68F).
We had happy hour around the fire and when there was enough coals we all cooked our dinner on the campfire. Sue, Roy, and Garth bought these huge t-bone steaks at the butcher in town...
Huge t-bone steaks,
Ruth and I split the ribeye steak in the middle.
Mouth watering good!
Another great day in Mexico!
And it looks like today is going to follow suit. We are going to La Cocinita for breakfast and then doing a 9 km (5.6 mile) hike!

And in Canada...
That bike trail looks so fun!
ReplyDeleteIt was fun but a little bumpy! Not really meant as a bike trail but it worked well for that purpose. It was more just for farm vehicles and probably few ATV's. It was really quiet and pretty.
DeleteGreat that you could do more Barbecue dinners this time around. I like the header photo.... We didn’t have time to explore Valle de Juarez last year as I had to go to Guadalajara to catch a flight to Manila to be with my dying mom. That parrot looks like he has an eyebrow?! Interesting!
ReplyDeleteWe learned last year near the end of our trip how fun it was to have a campfire and cook our meals over it so we have been doing more of that this year and it's been going down really well with the group.
DeleteYep, it is a shame that you had to leave so early but with good reason. As you know, Valle de Juárez is one of our favourite places in Mexico. Just a nice quiet little farming town with friendly people, good food and lots of opportunities for hiking.
Glad you got out on the bikes! Bumpy or not, looks like a fun ride to me. The key is to raise your rump off the saddle just a bit through the bumpy sections. :-) Glad you are having fun in the new year!
ReplyDeleteWe were happy to get the bikes out again too! We are really trying to make a conscientious effort to get on them more often down here in Mexico. That is exactly what we were doing, the problem was that half our ride was on a bumpy almost cobble stoned road. We still enjoyed the ride though. :-)
