Out for a hike, and Ruth's new glasses

We set out at 9:45am for a hike to Estribo Grande... an old volcanic hill overlooking Patzcuaro. There is a mirador (lookout) there, as well as 472 steps leading up to another lookout.

We decided to do the route that goes up and around the other side of the volcano, and then down the 472 steps.

But first we had to walk through the town.

Following the firewood into town.

As we went through town, we stopped at the optician just in case Ruth's glasses had arrived. But, they reaffirmed their original timing... after 4:30pm in the afternoon.

Saw this little hive filled with little black wasps.

And a hummingbird.

 Scenery along the way.

Stay away from the edge!

View over Patzcuaro.

Larry and Jim coming down the 472 steps.

View from the mirador.

And then we headed back through town.

We stopped in to the market to have some delicious birria for a late lunch. Then, we had to wait around the central area for the optician to open again at 4:30pm so that we could pick up Ruth's glasses. They were about 10 minutes late, but they arrived! So far, she seems totally happy with them.

New glasses.

Today, Ruth has gone off with some of the group to a nearby lake, but I stayed behind... I need a day to catch up on a few things around here.

  1. Both Norma and I bought all our glasses (for the past 20 years} from a Mexican optometrist in Algodones. Just curious, how long was it between ordering and delivery?

    1. Kevin got his new glasses in Guadalajara back in March and was very happy with them. This year I needed new ones and was waiting until we got somewhere where we were staying for a longish time so that I could order them and receive them in time. I went in and had my eyes tested and ordered the new glasses on Saturday and we picked them up late Wednesday afternoon. So far I am very pleased with them. :-)

    2. That is pretty fast. I tried to order some in SMA but they were going to take two weeks so I had to pass. In Algodones if you order before noon they are ready the same day.

    3. Yes, we were pretty happy with the turn around time.

When Kevin got his glasses in Guadalajara back in March, he got them the same day but he didn't have anything special with them other than progressive. If he had wanted transition ones like mine then it wouldn't have been same day, instead I think it was two or three day turnaround.

  2. Glasses look great. Glad Ruth stayed away from the edge needing New glasses and all. Very beautiful views on your walk. Glad it was 472 steps down.

    1. Thank you!

My old glasses worked well enough that I knew not to go close to that edge, lol. :-)

  3. That wasn’t a black wasp nest, that’s a Mexican piñata. Lol

  4. I had to look up birria...I guess it is a "spicy stew". Was yours made of chicken, goat meat or mutton? All of the food looks delicious!

    1. Ours was made with beef. We have never seen it made with chicken, it is normally, goat, mutton or beef. I was totally delicious! We love Mexican food. :-)

  5. Eye glasses were the only thing Carol could never get quite right in Mexico - she tried three different times and each time something was slightly off. We were disappointed, of course, since he prices are so much better.

    1. That's a shame that they couldn't get it right for her.

These seem to be totally fine other than when I am working on the computer, the screen seems to look like it is angled funny but all the text is just right for me to read it. It might just be a matter of getting used to them. Other than that, they are great inside and out. :-)

  6. I like your glasses, Ruth! The glasses I got here in Mexico (at Costco) have been just fine, but my husband's are a bit "off" in the Rx or the progressive part. He says they're fine for reading or at the computer, but when he's walking about, they give him a headache or dizziness or something. I hope he just hasn't gotten used to them, same as you. Sometimes it takes a little time.

    1. Thank you Emily! :-)

Yes, looking at the computer seems to be my only issue, it just doesn't seem to look quite right. I can read everything fine on it but it doesn't look quite right, I am sure it is only a matter of getting used to them. Everything else seems perfect, even reading a book. I hope your husband adjusts to his new glasses as well.
