Hierve el Agua and Mitla Ruins

There is a lot to see and do around the Oaxaca city area, but a prime attraction is Hierve el Agua... that's why we keep returning there to show it off to some of the new people in the group. Also, Ruth and I have been there 4 times now and we never get tired of it... the scenery is simply beautiful.

We headed out with the group at 9:00am Thursday morning.

It was a gorgeous blue sky day... almost a little cool, but that's great for hiking.

Arrived with the van.

First view of the petrified waterfalls.

The water in this pool has lots of algae in it.

Beautiful views.

Aron is going to walk on water.

Good thing it's not slippery!

People on top of the other area.

Ruth walking across.

Off for a hike.

Me!

There is always a cross to be seen in Mexico.

Ruth and the view.

Bob!

Looking back at the main area.

Lots of fun at such an interesting and beautiful place.

We stopped for lunch and then a quick visit to a small mescal distillery...

Tlayuda for lunch.

Crushing the pinas the old fashioned way.

Bob and Ruth at the tasting desk.

From there, we stopped in at the Mitla archaeological site. This ruins site was an active community from 900 to 1500 and is well known for it's geometric designs.

Ruth at the main building.

Lots of intricate designs.

When the Spanish came, they tore down some of the original buildings and used the rock to build their church on the same site.

Interesting day, and the group enjoyed it. Friday, we went to downtown Oaxaca.
