Once again, we are reminded how much happier we are away from the coast.

Our route took us from essentially sea level up to 5,300' near the city of Oaxaca. So essentially uphill, but with lots of ups and downs along the way.

Anyhow, we made it to Kate and Del's Oaxaca Campground at about 2:30pm. Still warm here, but so far we have not been bothered by bugs and the temperature drops to a pleasant 12C (54F) overnight. During the day it is back up to 30C (86F) with clear sunny skies.
We are going to stay here at least until next Monday March 2nd. So, lots of exploring to do, and hopefully a little relaxing as well. We finally have a half decent internet connection for the first time in a long while so the blog postings should occur a little more regularly!

What are pinas? Looks like a HUGE pineapple!!!???
ReplyDelete"Pina" is Spanish for pineapple and in this case these are the heart of the agave plants once the leaves have been cut off. So yes, they do look like big pineapples hence the name "pinas". It is this part of the plant that is used to make tequilla/mescal.
DeleteJust curious, how long did it take you to drive that 279 KM? That is a long way for one day.
ReplyDeleteWe started at 8am and pulled into Kate's around 2:30pm and that included several pee breaks and a half hour lunch break, so just under five and a half hours of actual driving time.
