We set out from the orphanage at 8:00am. We had to retrace our route back through the wind tunnel corridor of La Ventosa where we exited the toll road towards the balneario (water park).
This is a spot that Ruth and I had never been to, so we were looking forward to staying at another new location for us.
Monday's drive (right to left) 247 kms (153 miles).
Here are some photos of the day...
Beautiful clear blue sky!
Road crews clearing brush by hand.
We were dropping in elevation and there was some fog in the valleys.
Colorful flowers.
Not much traffic on the backroads.
We still think it's funny how most people stick to the toll roads in Mexico. So much better on the back roads. Sure, you often make better time, but you miss so much of the scenery.
The free road.
Once we got near La Ventosa, we got on the toll road.
Sometimes, it is better to take the toll road. In this situation, not using the toll road after La Ventosa heading west would have been a bad choice. And that's where experience comes into play. But, there is also logic. The free road goes directly though some small towns and one small city. The toll road avoids all of that.
Still we had no choice but to take the back roads to the water park.
The road into the Ojo de Agua balneario.
Once we arrived, it was beautiful.
Aron, Garth, Mona, Ruth, Sue, and Roy in the crystal clear water.
A great way to cool off after a long drive,

Only down side... lots of noseeums. I can't stand bugs, but they totally love me! I had to spray my legs as well as my arms. And I still got a few bites!
Still, it was a good stop. Tuesday, we are off to the big city of Oaxaca...stay tuned...

ReplyDeleteThanks... I hadn't even noticed!
DeleteBack roads are better here too (more interesting). Probably everywhere.
ReplyDeleteWe totally agree with you and backroads are definitely our preference. :-)
DeleteHow does one pronounce Oaxaca?
ReplyDeleteWah-ha-kah.
DeleteI hope nobody lost their A/C units on that last road....If the washboards don't getch'a the branches may....
ReplyDeleteLol, luckily that was just the road going from the turn off on the road into the parking lot. We took it very slowly and the branches that were low hanging were small and very light so really it wasn't an issue with the washboard in there or any chance of losing an A/C unit. :-)
