Yesterday, I got up on Sherman's roof and gave it a bath. Some regular readers will remember when I re-coated the roof back in September 2015. Considering that was almost five years ago, it was a good thing to do and it has held up well.
But, it is starting to deteriorate again. Maybe this summer I will give it a re-coat.
Given that Sherman is now 25 years old, he's actually doing pretty good considering that he has been well used!
Golden fronted woodpecker.
We sat by the pool in the afternoon and played some backgammon. During the day, we are pretty much the only ones here except for the workers. The place is actually pretty busy overnight though, with many traveling by car and staying in the rooms. There was only one other RV here last night, a class C from Saskatchewan. They came in, plugged into electric and stayed in their rig the whole time.
They make fantastic margaritas here! We got a bit of an early start to happy hour, but we paced ourselves
Margaritas by the pool.
Me, staying away from people!
We asked at the restaurant to have our "farewell dinner" outside. They were really good at accommodating us...
We asked to have dinner outside.
It was a really nice setting.
You can see that another table decided to eat outside as well.
Rib eye steak with mushrooms.
Aron, Jim, Denise, Bob, Ruth, Kevin, Roger, Mona, Owenita.
We had a really nice meal and did some reminiscing about the people who left the group early. We sure missed Sue, Roy, Garth, Larry, and Martha who were not able to join us!

And in Canada...
Great idea to eat outdoors. It looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteWe thought so too, and it was such a beautiful evening to enjoy it as well. :-)
DeleteYum. Love ribeye steak too. I never go out to have a steak but I do buy my own and grill it at home to my liking...which is well done. I never can eat food not cooked well done. Safe travels all.
ReplyDeleteThe filet mignon was actually better. We don't go out for steak dinners either because they are usually just too expensive but they are certainly a lot more reasonable here and it was also our "farewell dinner" so it was extra special. :-)
DeleteThanks for sharing and have really enjoyed following along with your trip this Winter! Propane is an essential service here in Oliver so I am still open but it's far from business as usual. I want to close down. As we are a border town area we have seen lots of snowbird traffic returning for the last few weeks. Unfortunately, there have been many travellers who are not taking the mandatory 14 day self isolation protocol that is in place seriously. I have personally had snow birds pull in for propane which is a no-no. The customer did not have a tap enabled credit card after he told me that he did and I had to accept contaminated cash payment. This puts everyone who contacts that money at risk. After I straightened him out, he drove across the street and went to A&W! Apparently, the buy low foods parking lot in Osoyoos has been full of snowbirds crossing at Oroville! This is causing spread of the virus and putting people at risk. The protocol is stay in the vehicle. Phone the store give them your list and pay by phone. Staff will bring out your order and put it on the step. The Canadian Government is enacting the quarantine act at midnight tonight so it is no longer a suggestion but is now law. Prepare to stay in your RV for 14 days minimum. If you display symptoms, you will not be allowed into Canada. Violation can result in suspension of your drivers licence, fines up to 10,000 , institutional isolation or jail. The virus is all over the place and most businesses are closed. Groceries and gas available with protocols in place. Stay safe out there and be careful in the USA. My brother works in the medical profession in Manhattan and he says it's a total s... show, to put it mildly. I'm personally glad to be on the right side of the border. In a related mater we have one of the largest Indo Canadian populations in Canada and many of our friends and their relatives are stuck in India. It is estimated over 20,000 Canadians and they are trying to get the Government to charter flights home. Yikes! The migrant workers in our area, over 1000 in Oliver last year, mostly Mexican nationals are in total limbo. Declared essential finally by the government but there is no flights available. They are a critical part of agriculture in Oliver, and we are in big trouble without them. On that happy note, good health and good luck Kevin and Ruth and group.
ReplyDeleteOnly one correction... "If you display symptoms, you will not be allowed into Canada."
DeleteNot true, unless they have changed something this morning that I have not seen. But up until this morning, if you display symptoms, you will not be allowed onto an airplane heading to Canada.
This is the latest from the government "If you show signs of the virus, officials will contact a quarantine officer. The quarantine officer will perform a more detailed assessment. If necessary, the quarantine officer may:
Deleteorder you to be transported to hospital to undergo a medical examination
inform the local public health authority
But this is only if you show symptoms. If not it's a 14 day quarantine. Hopefully you can arrange someone to drop off groceries and other essentials once you arrive back in in Canada. Good luck and safe travels!
I hope you can get back to Canada safely. This whole thing is giving me a massive headache. BTW I would suggest contacting your park in Sask. Here in BC anything even remotely close to being a park is closed. Parks beaches campsites courts playgrounds etc. The pickle ball courts by my house are closed. Very popular! Peace and quiet finally!
DeleteJudi is correct with her information on "if you show signs of the virus", or at least that is what we last saw as well. We feel sorry for you Scott having to deal with people like that.
DeleteThe world is definitely in chaos at the moment and it is unknown how long things can continue the way they are now, we really don't think things can stay locked down like this and still be able to have an economy, it will certainly make for some interesting times.
We have already been in contact with our park and at that time things were still uncertain but we can't stay at the park unless we stay in our rig for 23.5 hours a day for 14 days because of this mandatory quarantine act, which at that point is a little ridiculous when you are out in the middle of nowhere with no one around but rules are rules. We will have to sit back and think out a plan, in the meantime we will head up to border as planned and then go from there. Things are changing from one day to the next, so at the moment the future is unknown.
My understanding is at land border crossing into Canada for Canadian citizens if you display symptoms you will be given information on were to go for medical attention on the Canadian side of the border but not refused entry. That is what was reported a week ago but things are changing rapidly. Good luck and stay safe and healthy.
ReplyDeleteI believe that is correct, although at this point they may take you to a medical facility themselves to make sure that you comply, if you are showing symptoms of course. Yep, things are changing rapidly so we have to stay aware each and every day.
DeleteToday I was reading the Prime Minister of Canada and the Canadian domestic airlines are air-lifting Canadians abroad back to Canada at no charge. Don't know about cross in vehicle but I'm sure they will allow you back into country.
ReplyDeleteYes, I believe that is happening. As for crossing in a vehicle you are given the information on self quarantining and as Carwash Scott said, they are taking your information and are supposed to be checking up with you to make sure you are complying to the 14 day quarantine act and not leave your house or in our case our motorhome for 14 days, except for a half hour each day for some fresh air as long as no one is around. You are not to stop for anything, like gas or groceries.
DeleteYour method of poolside self isolation is admirable. I'm currently in my recliner self isolating with a beer.
ReplyDeleteWe think it is a great way of sheltering in place and of course social distancing! Enjoy your beer. :-)
DeleteWow. Changing every 5 minutes. Sask. shutting everything down right now on CBC
ReplyDeleteWe are not surprised to hear that!
DeleteYou can always park Sherman with us. We're going to miss seeing you this year. I guess that true for a lot of people in a lot of different situations.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the offer Chris but it looks like we will head into the chaos north of the border with the rest of the group. We are sure going miss seeing you guys this winter as well. Take care and keep healthy.
DeleteYou are better at pacing yourself with margaritas then I am, lol
ReplyDeleteThese are pretty potent margaritas, any more than two and I think we would be under the table, lol!
DeleteMexico, sun and Margaritas or the very quiet, winter-worn streets of SK - I'm picking Margaritas. Love your approach to all of this craziness.
ReplyDeleteUs too! It is definitely a great place to hunker down for a bit but we know that we have a border crossing coming up soon. :-(
DeleteI guess if you were "stuck" anywhere, your happy place (Mexico) is where I would pick! Still looks like paradise, no matter how long you need to be there!
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely our happy place and if we didn't have a commitment to the group to get them up to the border for the end of March we might just choose to stay here.
