Steak for dinner!

It just occurred to me that I never published out February expense report... and I don't have time to do it now. We are headed out to do some cycling around Puebla this morning and we are leaving in 40 minutes... so this will be a quick post.

I'll get to the expenses later today.

Yesterday was a puttering around day. We lugged a couple of bags of laundry over to the nearby lavanderia and then decided to head to the market with Bob and Denise. Cholula has a great daily market with lots of fresh food. Didn't bring the camera this time.

Bought some strawberries, and some little plums... they aren't much bigger than cherries. I really like them. And, a couple of big rib steaks for 90 pesos ($6.00 CAD, $4.50 USD) each. They are huge and one steak will be enough for the two of us. We'll put the other one in the freezer for another day.

Stopped in for tacos arabes and tacos orientales for lunch. When Ruth and I can eat lunch for 30 pesos ($2.00 CAD, $1.50 USD) for the two of us, it's hard to turn down!

In the afternoon, we did some deep cleaning of Sherman. Took the screens out of the bedroom windows and cleaned the windows and sills inside and out. More needs to be done though... the roof vents are filthy after having been on the coast for a while.

Last night was steak night, and we fired up some charcoal on an old grill here at the park. Everyone took turns cooking their choice of meat.

That's a good looking chunk of meat!

Dinner is served!

Unfortunately, the steak was only "okay". We've had better, but we've also had worse. Not bad for the price, but we won't be running back for more.

Sunset last night.

  1. Buy a sous vide, it tenderizes meat and basically cooks it, you just finish it off on the barby.

    1. I can't see us buying a sous vide, first off I am just an old fashioned cook and like doing things the old fashioned way. Something about putting my food in a bag and then submersing it into a pot of water with something that will then heat up the water to cook my food just doesn't sound appealing. Second off, it requires electricity to run it and because it creates heat then it uses up a fair bit of electricity and I don't know that our solar system or inverter would be able to support it's use, seeing that we are rarely hooked up to electricity.
