Mexico next winter?

Just a lazy day here at the ranch yesterday. I spent some time getting my new phone set up and figuring out how everything works. Not that much different from the 3 year old Samsung, but certainly a few new bells and whistles.

It was too hot and windy to do any painting, but it has cooled off a bit today so we should be able to get back at it again.

We did get out for a walk though...

The swimming hole.

Looking back at the ranch.

Wildflowers.

I also spent some time trying to figure out exactly what I bought when we re-activated our Verizon Jetpack for cellular internet access.

When I made the purchase, the girl had told me that I was getting 30GB of data... it was normally 15GB, but there was a 15GB bonus. Verizon had said there was a 15GB freebie that they were doing as part of their response to Covid-19 and I figured that's what the 15GB bonus was that she was talking about.

I've tried to register the number so I can access my account online to see how much data we have used, but there is some kind of glitch. So I contacted them through messenger and they said that I still have 41.3GB available! It turns out that the 15GB freebie was on top of the 15GB bonus... so we have tons of data available to us!

We also have decided that we are NOT doing another Mexico RV caravan next winter.

We had actually decided this well before the Covid-19 came on the scene. But, we were not planning on going to Mexico at all next winter. We need a change, so we were thinking somewhere like Sri Lanka. We like visiting places that hardly anybody else ever goes to.

However now, there is no point in planning any travel. It's far too early to be thinking about what the world's situation might or might not be like six months from now. I think it's totally ridiculous to try and guess.

And who knows... we might end up back in Mexico next winter but if we do, it won't be to lead a caravan. Not saying that we won't do another one another year, because we do enjoy showing people why we love Mexico... but it won't be this upcoming winter.

Now... off to get some more painting done!

  1. Everything is up in the air. We were supposed to go back to Europe in June for a few weeks and we already figured a month ago that that wasn't going to happen. The airline are presently offering a "voucher" for travel any time within a year, but that doesn't even seem like something we want to do. We did make sure to have cancellation insurance, even though that might mean being out a few bucks. Sucks all around. Enjoy your heat. Ain't happenin' here.

    2. Yep, it seems like everyone's plans are up in the air at the moment. Most airlines aren't charging you to cancel or change your reservations at the moment. For us our voucher is good until September 2022, I believe. Hopefully by then things will be back to normal or as normal as they might ever get and we should be able to book another flight somewhere with them.

We are enjoying the heat although Friday and Saturday may actually be TOO hot. With any luck your weather should start to improve. Normally in Canada, you go from winter to summer within a day. lol!

  2. Makes sense, although sad, to not be planning for next year. If we learned anything from our trip in Mexico last year it is that we have still so much we want to explore.
We r so grateful for all the detailed blogs you have written that have and will help so many of us experience amazing Mexico.
    Safe travels Ruth and Kevin.

    1. It is still way too early to be planning for anything much these days. We might have a better idea of how things are shaping up in the world by the end of the summer but then again, who knows.

Even with all the travel and exploring that we have done in Mexico there is still so much that we haven't seen and still want to see and we are always finding new and interesting places all the time.

We really hope that you two are able to get out and explore some of these amazing places. Thanks for following along on the blog and you know that if you ever have any questions, all you have to do is send us an email.

Safe travel to you guys as well. :-)

  4. We are rebooked to Zihuatanejo for November 30th, really unsure if that is happening on it but I wouldn't bet on it. We are even trying to warn our Stepson not to book a date for their wedding too soon - if half the guests can't fly to it safely then what's the point (we did suggest eloping was ok, not sure if they will do that) also there may still be limits on the number of people permitted to gather which would affect all their plans. Our next trip will be to Mexico, just not sure what year

    1. All you can do at the moment is hope that you will be able to get there by November. It is still a long way off and so much can happen between now and then.

I think you are giving your stepson good information on not planning a wedding until things are a little more certain in the world.

  6. Everything is so up in the air. I just hope we can return to our house in Mazatlan next winter. If not our good friend Rafael will keep it safe.

  7. Yup.... planning for any travel anywhere for that matter in the next 6 to 18 months is highly premature at this time. Best to plan on staying healthy and safe and hope for the best for the rest of the world.

  8. Agree on your planning (or lack thereof). Just too unstable at the moment to know whether you can really travel at all or not. Perhaps once you get back to Canada you may be stuck for a while. Maybe even (oh my!) spend the winter in Canada... But alas I'm sure once the doors open for travel again you will find somewhere unique to head to. Maybe an island somewhere that is never travelled to. Somewhere non-touristy. That's why I like reading your blog. You go outside the norm. Love it.

    1. Yep, it is definitely not the time to start planning any kind of travel but that doesn't mean we can't start doing research, lol.

Kevin said he will do whatever he can to make sure we don't spend the winter in Canada, definitely not something we want to have to deal with.

Sri Lanka is an island and it isn't very touristy either! We love thinking outside the box. :-)
