Our pet butterfly

We always make an effort to get out for some exercise. Every day. It's at least a 4 mile hike of some kind and that's the minimum. In fact the last few days have probably averaged 6 miles (10 kms) per day.

And of course the terrain makes a difference. Some places we are trekking through the brush, and other places we are power walking on a paved pathway.

But at least we are in an environment where we know we can do this. We believe it is of utmost importance to get exercise and be outdoors in fresh air and to remain in good physical condition during this epidemic. And of course, stay away from other people.

How about this obstacle course...

This path has a lot of roots!

We think this is a carolina wren.

A green kingfisher.
They are a funny looking bird with a big head and beak with a relatively small body.

Just us.
I love how the old log has a new tree growing out of it!

Mushrooms growing out of an old tree.

Out exploring.

So we're sitting outside the motorhome relaxing and reading when a butterfly comes by and lands on me. Ruth gets up to go get the camera and of course the butterfly is scared off by her movement. But she got the camera anyhow, and sure enough my friend came back.

Our pet butterfly.

We named him Fred.

Fred hung around for quite a while. Flying off occasionally, then coming back. Once, he landed on Ruth's head!

On Ruth's arm.

We had a thunderstorm come through yesterday afternoon, and we put the chairs and the awning in, but left our little coffee table outside. When the rain was over, we went back outside and there was Fred sitting on the coffee table waiting for us. Where he went during the rain, we have no idea.

We also play our daily backgammon and Yahtzee games. Many of our long time readers know that we keep an annual tally of the scores. So far this year, I am winning at backgammon with a score of  95 to 70.

However, Ruth is winning at yahtzee with a score of 71 to 52 and she is 1,400 points ahead of me! The other day, she got 3 yahtzees in the first game, and 2 yahtzees in the second. How am I supposed to compete with that?!

But, it's early in the season yet.

Today, we head a little bit further north.

  2. Fred looks comfortable but I'm curious how well he'd travel in an RV.

    1. I doubt he would like being cooped up in an RV so we let him stay free to enjoy the peace and quiet of the park. :-)

  3. Maybe "Fred" was hoping for a lift riding in an RV North instead of having to flap the hard way.

    1. Maybe, or maybe he was just lonely and enjoyed a little company for a change. :-)

    1. No, no era una mariposa monarca de México volando hacia el norte. Solo una mariposa de Texas disfrutando de una pequeña compañía.
