Glad we stayed another day

We waited for the bike shop to open at 10:00am and then phoned them to make sure they had the tire and tube I needed. We were going to walk over there, but David offered me the use of his bicycle, so Ruth and I rode over there.

In the plaza near the bike shop is a Trader Joe's grocery store, so we stopped in to pick up a few things. There were about 10 people in line (spaced 6 feet apart), and we almost didn't bother but the line moved quickly.

They are only allowed 25% off maximum fire code occupancy, yet the store seemed too busy. We grabbed what we needed and didn't bother browsing.

The bike shop had the tire and tube, and $52 USD ($73 CAD) later we were on our way back to Sherman.

I replaced the tire and tube while Ruth made an early lunch, and then we set off. The people who suggested we do the Santa Fe Rail Trail were correct... it was a great bike ride!

Dead bull snake.

What a great bike ride! We did 13.5 miles (21.5 kms).

Today, we are moving on, heading northwest towards Utah, however it might take us a few more days to get there. There is lots to see in New Mexico!

  1. Man, you guys are living the life, I tell ya. You two had the smartest strategy for this quarantine of anybody else in North America - you practically have all the cool spots to yourselves everywhere you go. And to think you got so much grief for not panicking & for deciding to quarantine on the road instead of doing it stuck in one place! The people who said yall were crazy look pretty silly now. You're probably the only ones who are gonna come out of this with both your physical & mental health *improved*!

    1. Well we do feel pretty fortunate to be living in our RV and being able to get to these places in the middle of nowhere so that we can still hike or bike and be well away from people. Some people may still disagree with you and with us as to how we are doing it but we feel we are being very safe and cautious as to not infecting ourselves or us unknowingly infecting someone else.

We definitely feel that we are doing what is best for both our physical and mental health. :-)

  2. Oh, I'm so envious of that bike ride! I am not sure that is the trail we rode on our short visit to Santa Fe, but it may have been. There are a lot of trails there. So much fun! Glad you got to experience that too.

    1. We did enjoy our bike ride that is for sure and this was a great biking trail, lots of ups and downs that gave us a good workout. This was called the Santa Fe Rail Trail and it goes south of Santa Fe to Lamy.

    2. Yes! That's the one we rode. I checked our blog. What a great trail, though we did have a bit of a mishap that made for a more "exciting" day than we expected! (Our post: https://travelingtwosome.weebly.com/traveling-twosome-blog/summer-trip-to-the-southwest-santa-fe-part-2)

    3. Yikes, what a day you had! We hate that feeling of losing your wallet. Kevin lost his wallet back in 2011 when we were hiking in New Hampshire somewhere. We went back looking for it and came up blank. Yep, we had to cancel his credit cards and they reissued new ones, he had to get a new driver's license, such a pain. So glad that you got Barry's wallet back, even though it was lacking the $40.

    4. We were too! It would have been terrible to lose everything. So sorry that happened to Kevin. What a pain, especially while traveling!

    5. Yep, it was a bit of a pain, luckily we were headed back "home" to Ottawa so we got everything replaced fairly quickly.

  3. Even though we live in a small town on a large quiet acreage what we lack, and you have, is the ability to be spontaneous in where we go and what we do at this point in time. Enjoy every minute of it!

    1. Yes, I think the smartest thing we did was to NOT rush back to Canada.
