Long bike ride!

Well, yesterday's blog post was an interesting diversion. Even if you disagreed with me, the many comments give you an indication of what other people think about the situation as well. I found it an worthwhile commentary. But today, we are back to our regularly scheduled programming!

On Monday we drove from Tulare to Redfield, only a distance of about 10 miles (16 kms)! It was supposed to be a fairly windy cross wind day and Sherman doesn't like driving in the wind. We are in no rush, so we sat in the motorhome by the library, and got some work done.

Then we went for a long walk. Redfield is a nice little town, but not really many places that are interesting to walk or bike. Still, we managed to do 6 miles (10 kms) or so. We did find a nice quiet city park where we drove Sherman to and then hung out in the shade for the afternoon.

It was so nice and quiet there, we stayed put for the night.

On Tuesday, with milder winds we drove from Redfield to Watertown (pop 21,000). We are now close to the Minnesota border.

Lots of farming.

A few more bodies of water. You can tell the prairie scenery is starting to change.

Starting to see some corn being grown.

We parked up at the Watertown library and got the bikes off and went for a nice long bike ride. We didn't really plan on it being that long, but they have some great bike paths here and so we just kept going!

There is lots of green space and parks around town.

Scenery along the way.

The bike path headed out of town, past the airport, and around to Lake Kampeska. It's a fairly big lake, but it was a beautiful afternoon and so we just kept going.

Lake Kampeska.

But the time we got back to the library where Sherman was parked, we had been gone for two and a half hours and we had biked 24 miles (39 kms)!

We could have stayed parked at the library, but while we were out biking we had come across a small city park on a pond and it didn't have any parking restriction signs. So we drove out there and had a nice quiet night.

Today looks like another beautiful summer day with a forecast high of 81F (27C) and a mild wind from the west. That means we will have a bit of a tail wind, so we will get some driving in as we head further east in to Minnesota.

    1. Mostly flat but there were some small hills that we encountered. :-)

  2. That looks like a great place to ride! We spent awhile in Brown Park South campground in Jackson County, Minnesota when we were RVing and loved the area. It too had a lovely bike path, and we rode frequently. The bike path continued into the Spirit Lake area of Iowa, so we got to explore a lot. They had some very severe thunderstorms while we were there, but other than that, we loved the area. Hopefully the storms will stay away as you cross MN!

    1. That area looks quite nice too! We are in Willmar now and they also have a lot of bike trails, one trail goes on for almost 40 miles past some small lakes. We figure that we will do half of it from here and then drive up to Paynesville and do the other half from there. Hopefully the weather will cooperate for us.

  3. Are you planning to go across the UP along the northern route or southern route? This may be out of your way and you may not want to take a ferry, but I have a place on Sugar Island, next to Soo, MI if you need a place to stay.

    1. Thank you very much for the invitation but we are going to have to give it a pass this time around. If times were different then we would probably jump on the invitation but right now we are just trying our best to stay away from people. Sugar Island looks like a wonderful spot to be especially during this whole COVID-19 virus mess.

    1. We're in Willmar right now, so you're just a few miles north of us. Unfortunately, we are trying to avoid people as much as possible so as much as we would like to meet, we don't think this is the right time!
