The final drive...

We were on the road at sunrise on Sunday morning in order to beat the weekend traffic. We still had 300 kms (185 miles) to do, so we planned on stopping for breakfast and then another break later on in the morning, and arrive at Galetta well before lunch.

But with so little traffic, and a bit of a tail wind, we kept going until well past the half way point and ended up stopping for breakfast in Deep River, Ontario.

Here are some pics from yesterday's drive...

Nobody around.

Heading east, it was nice to have a bit of cloud in the sky so the sun wasn't in my eyes!

We ended up driving straight through after breakfast, so we arrived in Galetta at 10:40am.

It's a typical warm summer here in Ottawa area. They've just finished a two week long hot spell, which we caught the tail end of. Temperature yesterday got up to about 34C (93F) and it's a very humid part of the country so it doesn't take much effort to start to sweat.

No, we don't have air conditioning, but we're not worried about that. With fans and shade, we are quite comfortable. The worst of the heat appears to be over with anyhow... forecast high of 30C (86F) today, with some showers.

Yesterday's drive, 300 kms (185 miles).

  1. I took several photos along that same part of hey 17 when we returned home from our cabin in Gogama last week. My partner always asks me why I photograph that same spot. It's that first glimpse of our beloved Ottawa Valley that always makes my heart swell and feel home. One time we met a Buddhist monk who walks back and forth across Canada.

    1. I didn't realize that that is where the Ottawa Valley basically begins. I just loved how the road just travels along with the hills and sky in the back and the fact that is was early and we pretty much had the road to ourselves.

I have never heard about a monk walking back and forth across Canada. I will have to look that up and see if there is a story about him, you would think that there must be?! I just did and that guy has walked across Canada four times now, wow that is quite the hike!

  2. Have you and Kevin consider a you tube channel. I bet it would be good and I think you would have a big following.

    1. I think it would be too much work. And, we are often only connected to the internet via cellular and uploading videos would use too much data.

    1. Thank you! At the moment it is very hard to be so near to our daughter and grandchildren yet not be able to see them for until August 8th at the earliest. So close yet so far! :-(

  4. We never use our A/C. It's too big, too noisy and makes the trailer vibrate. I would like a small window unit to put in the cabinet where the microwave is, we don't have use for that thing either. Glad you home safe and sound.

    1. You have AC in your house though don't you? I don't think you use it much either. The AC in our motorhome hasn't worked in years and because we rarely ever used it we just never bothered getting it fixed. My dad's house though has never had AC but it has lots of windows and a number of fans that we can use. We are totally happy with that. :-)

    1. Thank you Lynnette!

No, the grandkids won't be coming up to see us yet! We can't have visitors while in quarantine and we don't want to make Lindsey drive all the way up here with the kids if we can't actually hug and kiss them and sit with them, it would be like torture. So we won't be seeing them until Aug. 8th at the earliest. :-(
