Busy day, with Black Forest cupcakes!

Busy day yesterday as we once again headed into the city. It was our daughter Lindsey's 34th birthday and we were headed in to visit with my mother. My sisters were going to be there too, so it only made sense for us all to visit at the same time.

Lindsey brought Cameron and Sadie with her. The kids hadn't seen their great-grandmother since Christmas!

Instead of a birthday cake, Ruth made Black Forest cupcakes. They were delicious!

Lindsey, eating her birthday cupcake!

We haven't been with Lindsey on her birthday for probably 10 years. We usually show up in Ottawa in mid September so it has already passed. We planned this year so that we would be here for Lindsey's, and Sadie's birthday coming up on the 29th.

After our visit with my mom, we took Lindsey and the kids over to Mr. Mia's Indian restaurant for some takeout. They had the menu items listed on an outside window, and I took everyone's orders and then went in to order it on my own. Then I waited a half an hour in the car while Lindsey, Ruth, and the kids drove over to a park by the Ottawa River and waited for me.

The bill was $64.70 CAD ($49 USD) for a bunch of good food for the five of us. Not bad. That's the first time Ruth and I have had any restaurant food since we left Mexico at the end of March!

We sat on the rocks overlooking the river and had a picnic lunch!

Only one problem.

We opened the bags and containers to find that there were no napkins or utensils! I had just assumed that they would be in the bags.

It's pretty tough to eat chicken curry and rice using your fingers!

We ended up breaking off pieces on the container to use as a scoop. You do what you have to do! And it worked fine. I was stuffed. There was almost too much food, but it was good. Didn't need much of a supper!

Lindsey and Sadie.

After lunch, we walked along the shoreline for a while and skipped some rocks over the water.

Lindsey pretending to throw Cameron in the water.

Oh... I think he's going in.

Sadie wanted in on the action too!

Female American Black Duck.

Male American Black Duck. That sure is a pretty blue on the wing.

Scenery along the way.

We said goodbyes just before 2:00pm and Ruth and I headed over to visit with her dad for an hour.

He appreciated the birthday cupcake that Ruth brought him!

By the time we made it back to the house in Galetta it was well after 4pm and we hadn't got any exercise yet so we went out and did our 45 minute power walk, and then exercise for 45 minutes after that. Hopefully today we'll get out for a bike ride.

    1. Thank you on all accounts! We are really enjoying our family time and the area all around us is a really pretty.

We want to keep on traveling for as long as we can and keeping healthy and fit is the best way to achieve that goal. :-)

  2. That is the way the Indian's eat their picnic food. My late Grandmother in law taught me that the first time I had a meal at her house. Curry and Rice still tastes best scooped up with Nana's lovely naan bread!

    1. Lol, yeah naan bread would be much better for scooping up curry and rice rather than using a chunk of styrofoam from you takeout tray but it worked and the food was good. :-)

I think we would love your grandmother!

  3. When we do eat out we do mostly fast food. Even those you need to ask for napkins and condiments these days. Nice visits with family.
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. The only fast food that we do would be tacos and such down in Mexico and they always have the condiments sitting right there for you to add with lots of napkins! :-)

It was lovely to spend time with family and we are looking forward to doing more of that over the coming month and a half!
