Good news and sad news

Which do you want first? The good news, or the sad news?

Well, it doesn't matter... because they are both the same thing.

Sherman is sold!

Now that our house arrest is over, I got serious about the advertising. So Monday evening I had put a for sale ad on Facebook Marketplace with Sherman priced at $6,500 firm, as is.

And before the evening was over, I had 7 responses with one couple asking if they could come over at noon Tuesday.

And that's exactly what they did. I spent a half an hour going over some things with them, then left them to explore Sherman at their own leisure, then I returned to answer some more questions and they asked how firm the firm price was.

Sherman, in Meat Cove, Nova Scotia.

I explained that I though it was a fair price for both the buyer and the seller, and that the price was in fact very firm.

They said they would take it.

He says he's a handy guy and doesn't mind doing most of the labor himself to fix things up. And, they do plan to fix him up! So Sherman's life of exploring may not be over yet!

They said they had looked at quite a few "fixer upper" type units in the same price range, but they were junk. Mostly class C rigs with the typical water damage. But Sherman is not "junk". He just needs some work.

They left a $1,000 cash deposit and we did up some paper work. We will deliver him to their property in Quebec later this week (possibly tomorrow!)... which means I get to drive him one more time, with Ruth following in the little red car. It's about an hour drive.

And as I locked him up after they left, I did feel a touch of sadness. We sure did have a lot of adventures together. But, it's for the best. Time to move on to new adventures!

    1. Yep, that is about the way we feel, and I don't think we will have regrets either. It is going to be sad to say goodbye to him. We will always compare him to any unit we will ever buy. He was our first and so far the best, it will be hard to find one that will tick all the boxes like Sherman did.

  2. Sherman served you well. And now there's a young couple with fresh energy to give him a new lease on life. I look forward to the next phase in your travels. I sense a European RV eventually coming to Canada...

    1. He sure does and he doesn't owe us a thing, we will truly miss him!

Not sure why you thought that a young couple bought him but that isn't the case, it was a couple about the same age as us or a year or two younger but yes, it sounds like they will give Sherman a new lease on life. He in return will give them some great adventures.

We are looking forward to this new chapter in our life and no, there will not be a European RV coming back to Canada.

    2. I have no idea why I thought a young couple bought Sherman! I guess that is the picture my mind played while reading the story…

  3. Bittersweet for sure. But it's time to move on from Sherman and find new adventure. You have lots of photos and you know Sherman is being looked after by a new couple with new adventures on the horizon. I'm glad things worked out and now you have some pocket money :)

    1. Definitely bittersweet, but we just knew that it was time to move on to new adventures and that Sherman wasn't going to be part of them.

We are happy that things have worked out well too. Now we can really start planning for Europe.

  4. Wondering if he will get a new name with his new owners? Will there be a Sherman II? Sorry I didn’t get to meet him or maybe I still will as he lives out his next chapter.

    1. We have no idea if he will or not but he will always be Sherman to us. :-)

There will be a new to us RV in Europe but we are pretty sure it's name won't be Sherman II. We will think of something original that will suit that particular RV.

We are sorry that you didn't get to meet him either, you should have waited a little longer so that you could have joined our caravan instead of the one you did.

  5. Congratulations and don't cry are in order. As you said Sherman has more miles to travel.
With the uncertainty of International Travel are you replacing Sherman here or abroad?
    Be Safe and Enjoy!

    It's about time.

    1. When we hand Sherman over to his new owners on Friday there maybe a tear or two in our eyes, he has been a big part of our lives over the past 13 years.

No, we will not be replacing Sherman here, at least not for a number of years. We want to travel through Europe for a couple of years first depending of course on whether that will be possible come October as things are always changing.

  9. Sad to see Sherman no longer part of “TravelwithKevinandRuth”..... but it sounds like he’s in good hands and will possibly have more experiences with his new owners. Sure glad we had the opportunity to travel with him in Mexico. Best wishes to Sherman and to you two on your next chapter of adventures.

    1. It is sorta sad, he has certainly been a huge part of the Travel with Kevin and Ruth team. He will truly be missed. We are so happy to have had so many adventures in him and we have lots of pictures and memories to look back on. We are glad that you got to meet him and travel with him for 4 months in Mexico.

We are sure that he will enjoy his new owners and will be able to give them some great adventures of their own.

  10. It would be very sad to part with Sherman, he has been a faithful companion on so many adventures! I think yo set a very fair price (maybe a little too fair)! His entire maintenance history is available on your Blog so there will be no hidden surprises.

My motorhome has only been used for a little over one month in the past three years. With Norma starting to feel poorly, we just didn't go anywhere so I am going through the pros and cons myself but I just can't say I am ready to give up on RVing yet although the prospect of doing it alone is not appealing.

    1. It was hard to part with Sherman but we also knew that it was time. We want to go abroad and leaving him sit while we were gone was just not an option. He has given us some amazing adventures and it was time for him to move on and give someone else some wonderful adventures.

No, we really do think that we sold him at a fair price, he had two cracked windshields that would have to be replaced in order to get his safety check done and we had other small issues that would need a little repair work like fixing the AC and the generator which we just never bothered with because we never used them. Not only did we have his full history on the blog but we had ALL his paperwork as well as all his repair and oil change history. He was very sound mechanically but he did need some other TLC attention done to his actual "home".

Yep, we totally understand the dilemma that you have with your motorhome. We have talked about that ourselves should one of us pass on and it just isn't the same traveling on you own but we both think that if we aren't traveling then we would just staying in a house all alone which really isn't a whole lot different except that you could have the ability to move around in a motorhome.

  11. I have the feeling that Sherman is coming into good hands. This helps you over the sadness. You would not want him standing around until you are back. So you can even be happy.

    1. Yes, he is definitely going to good people. When we dropped him off one of the first things the guy said was that he was going to get on the work that was needed to get him to pass his safety check. After that is done, they were talking about driving out west for the winter. So it makes us very happy to hear that he will still be used and not sat in a driveway somewhere being ignored.

We will certainly miss him and I know that we will always use him as a comparison to anything else that we will get. He was a perfect fit for us and it will be hard to find something that will tick all the boxes that he did.
