Into the city again, and an update on Sherman

We were in the little red car at 9:45am yesterday and headed back into the city of Ottawa to visit with my mother and sisters.

I had mentioned yesterday that there was a problem with the left rear tire and that I had topped up the air pressure on Saturday night, and when I check it on Sunday morning it was still perfect.

So we got on the highway, and headed out. About 20 minutes into the 40 minute drive, another "low tire pressure" warning came on!

I checked the pressure when we arrived and it was half of what it should be! How is it that it didn't lose any air pressure when it sat overnight, but it loses pressure only when driving??

I decided to put the spare on, because there is obviously a problem. I got the wheel off and had a good look at the tire, but couldn't find any obvious problem. Then I looked at the rubber valve stem. Moving it a certain way, I heard a hiss of air. So what must have been happening is that the centrifugal force of the wheel turning at highway speed was bending the valve stem enough to cause a leak where the valve stem mounts on the rim.

I'll call Hertz today and see what they want me to do about it.

In the meantime, we had a birthday visit with my mom and sisters.

At the seniors facility where my mom lives they do outdoor parking lot visits with chairs spaced 6' apart. No requirement to wear a mask, since you are outdoors and well spaced.

My mom, older sister Elaine, younger sister Alison, and Ruth.

We had a nice visit, and they even allowed us to go over the allotted one hour time slot.

Back at Galetta, we had a late lunch and then did some tidying up because we were having dinner guests! Then, I did my exercise program, followed by our 5 km (3 mile) power walk. We set a good pace and managed to do it in 42 minutes. Normally, it takes between 45 to 47 minutes. Ruth had to jog a couple of times to keep up with me!

Our friend Kim arrived and brought with her a salad and a bunch of fresh sweet corn. Ruth did up some potatoes and I grilled them, and we supplied the wine and beer and squares for desert. Ruth's nephew Matthew who lives next door did up a delicious smoked brisket with sausage, and jalapeno poppers.

We had a feast!

Matthew, Ruth, and me!

Really nice to get together and do some socializing.

I've had about 7 or 8 responses to the ad for Sherman, but nobody serious except for one guy who came over to look at him the other day. He seemed very interested and said he would get back to me that evening, which he did. He wanted to do the deal, but wanted to know how much of a deposit I would require to hold him here until October 2nd when the sale of his house closes. I told him $2,000, and he asked if he could do an e-Transfer or did I want cash? I told him it was up to him, and asked if he wanted to meet up somewhere to do the deal. 24 hours later he hadn't got back to me so I saw the writing on the wall. I sent him another note and he did reply, apologizing that he would not be able to proceed.

Oh well.

Now that our quarantine is over, I will get serious about the advertising and also park him out front where cars driving by will see him.

Today, our daughter Lindsey is coming over for lunch with our grandkids Cameron (9) and Sadie (almost 7). Sure looking forward to seeing them. We haven't seen them since last November!

    1. Yes, it is very nice to be able to see our family and a few friends. We are going to keep our "bubble" small.

We don't blame you for wanting to stay out of the Toronto area for the time being. The big cities are somewhere we would not want to be in either.

  2. Glad your enjoying your time out of quarantine. I'm looking at taking on more travel time and was wondering if you might refer me to the month and year you all traveled through California, Nevada, Oregon and Arizona. I can use your information to help me with my planning. TIA and enjoy your socializing.

    1. We are happy to be out of quarantine as well.

We were in California a couple of times, once would have been the beginning of April 2016 for about two weeks but we were with my cousin and her husband and we didn't do a lot of proper boondocking then and that was from the LA area to Joshua Tree National Park to San Diego and then back to LA.

Oct. 20th, 2018 until then end of November we went through Washington, Oregon, the top of California, Nevada, a bit of Arizona and New Mexico and then into Texas.

We also spent time in Arizona in the latter part of January 2015, all of February and a little bit of March as well.

I hope that will help with your planning. If you have any questions don't hesitate to send us an email or contact us through Facebook. :-)
