When one job leads to another

Yesterday, I went to do some serious vacuuming of the family room here at Ruth's dad's house. This is the one room that gets used the most here, and it's been ages (years??) since furniture has been moved to be able to do the job properly. I even vacuumed the lamp shades!

Anyhow, when I first started the job, I noticed that the central vac system didn't have as much suction as it should. Hmm.

First step was to check for a clog in the hose. He has a second hose that is used for the outdoor connection (vacuuming the car, etc) so I went to get that hose and I hooked it into the same connector I had been using with the good hose.

Nope, same problem. Less than half the suction that it should have.

So I went to the basement and dropped the canister from the appliance itself. It was pretty full, and needed emptying, so I went ahead and did that. And the filter was filthy... I had to watch a youtube video for the best way to clean it. I also saw that it's supposed to be changed every five years or so, and I doubt it's ever been done.

With that cleaned and put back together, I went to check the pressure again. Nope... same problem!

So then I dragged the hose upstairs and checked it with the connection up there. Same problem.

And the outdoor connection where I was going to check the connection there as well.

But I didn't need to.

The cover on the outdoor connection was hanging open. Problem solved! The spring on the cover door had broken, so with it hanging open it was sucking half the air directly in through the open door.

I taped it shut, and voila... the system now worked perfectly.

With that job done, I could now get to the job that I set out to do!

Meanwhile, Ruth was still working on deep cleaning Sherman. It's amazing how much stuff you end up carrying around. No wonder so many rigs are overweight. Sherman was right on the borderline, and we didn't think we carried around much stuff. But when you empty everything out, that's a lot of trips back and forth.

No serious bites on the sale of the motorhome, but I haven't been making a real effort yet anyhow. After all, nobody can really come and see it until we're done with this quarantine thing anyhow. When that happens, I'll park him out front with a for sale sign. There is a fair bit of traffic that goes by the front driveway. I measured it out, and I think he will just barely fit!

Nice sunset Saturday evening.

Rain day today... "heavy at times" they say.

    1. Glad that you enjoyed the sunset, it was a pretty one. And yes, the rain was needed and it was a good rain, the kind that had time to really soak in. :-)

    1. It is nice but some times I really miss having a vacuum that you can cart around for certain jobs.
