Well, we knew this time would come

When we are out traveling, we are typically good for maximum one month in the same spot. And that's if we really like the spot! It's usually time to move on after two weeks.

So we had a good idea that staying here in Galetta for over two and a half months was going to be too long, but we didn't know exactly when the feeling would hit.

Well, it took about six weeks. In fact, it was a couple of days ago when I said to myself that I was starting to get the itch. But I only mentioned it to Ruth this morning. And she said that she was starting to feel the same way!

It's interesting how the feeling comes about. I started looking at places where we could possibly spend the winter. We will probably have a lot of choices, including perhaps in a motorhome in southern Europe. But it was an article I read about the west African country of Ghana opening up for tourism that really piqued my interest.

There's another travel blog run by a young Canadian couple who took it upon themselves to keep track of what countries are open for tourism and which ones are not. They've been really good at keeping it up to date, and it was a link to their page about Ghana opening for business that got me going...

The West African country of Ghana.

I mean, who goes to Ghana? I've never heard of anybody going there, and yet the place seems to be full of hiking and caves and waterfalls. It sounds wonderful.

Anyhow, who knows where we'll end up for the winter. Another thought was Greece. Of course we still have to be mindful of the Schengen Visa rules depending on what happens with our German residency plan, but it's another possibility.

So far, Southeast Asia isn't looking good, but who knows. Things can still change a lot over the next month and a half.

In the meantime, we will do our best to deal with things here. We've still got a lot to do, but I have a feeling the next 5 weeks are going to start to drag.

  1. Last December, my daughter went to Ghana to visit a friend in Accra for two weeks. They did a lot of hiking and she thoroughly enjoyed her visit. I’m looking forward to hearing where you’ll end up wintering.

    1. We think then that she is the first person that we know of that has visited Ghana and we are thrilled to hear that she did a lot of hiking and thoroughly enjoyed her time there. It definitely makes us want to check it out this winter even more. :-)

  2. Feel the same way! Itching to return to Yuma after a long summer of forest camping.

    1. That's it rub it in! At least you are out there doing what you love while we slave away trying to sort things out here and not having much free time to go exploring ourselves.
