High above Kas, Turkey

On Friday, we went for a hike that leads up a trail to the top of a cliff high above the town of Kas, Turkey. It wasn't a long trail, but from the bottom you can see some flags that somebody put up there, and it sure did look a long way up.

My mapping program told me that it was a 1.7 km (1.1 mile) trail, but that it would take an hour and twenty minutes because it's pretty much straight up. It gains 350 meters (1,200') in that short distance.

And it did take us an hour and twenty minutes, but we stopped and took photos along the way, and we detoured to a cave for a while.

It didn't take long to get a bit of a view.
That's our car parked on the road to the right.

Scenery along the way.

Ohhh... look... a cave!

Did I mention it was a gorgeous day??
Blue sky, sunshine, and a high of about 21C (70F).

Me!

Ruth, heading uphill.

We made it up to some caves and had a look around. I took a short video for you...

What a great viewpoint!
Don't worry mom... it wasn't as dangerous as the photo makes it out to be!

Ruth and the view.

Almost there.

We took another video for you as we made it to the top... turn up your volume...

View from the top!

You might have noticed from the video that there were some other people up at the top. It was a group of four girls, and we stood and chatted with them for a half an hour or so.

They were all from the U.S., but they are working as English teachers in the capital city of Ankara. One of them has been working here for 14 seasons, and her sister for 13 seasons. The other two were in year 4.

Then we headed back down. It only took a half an hour to get to the bottom!

Friday is market day in Kas, so we went and stocked up on fruits, veggies, and cheese. Didn't take any photos, but I'll try and remember for next Friday.

Today, we are walking into town to meet another traveling couple who invited us to their balcony for coffee.

    1. We love hiking, it really is our passion! We find that when we hike we can get to so many incredible places that no one else can see unless they hike in and we get a great satisfaction getting to our end point, whether it is a tough climb up or a long distance in or a big climb down, it is always an adventure.

Your little dog, Peanut Joy, sounds like a really little sweetheart and it is no wonder that people want to stop and pet her!

    2. Yes Peanut Joy loves everyone, kids, old folks like us! She even green big dogs, although we have to watch the big ones close! So the story about how we got her, that someone in California caught her(a dog catcher) and nobody claimed her. Since in California they have kill shelters Oregon they don't have any. When I asked if she could put a hold on her, she said we can take her home today, this was after we had been 2 hours in a room with her. So took her home
that day! She is about 4 years old. She loves the the Canadian couple (Christine/Ian), they gave her the name...Joy! Anyway, keep up the good posts, Rawn/Joann

    3. That's a nice story of how Peanut Joy came to join you both. She sounds like she lucked out with her new family.

    1. No, we actually had a good climb back down, it wasn't as steep or difficult as it might have looked. The views were incredible.

What a great hike. Love the views and the scenery and the blue sky whiles we have fog and cold here in Galway.

    1. Thank you Nora!

It was a fantastic hike and yes, we enjoyed beautiful blue skies and sunshine. Unfortunately it looks like rain and clouds starting Sunday evening and following through for the foreseeable future for us, so our weather is going to look quite similar. :-(
