Walk around the park, and a facebook problems update

Although we totally enjoyed ourselves at the Aphrodisias Ruins site on Friday, we didn't really get much in the way of exercise. We had to make up for that a little bit on Saturday, so we had a bit of an early lunch and then walked over to the big Adalet Park here in the city of Denizli.

Adalet Park is the largest city park here in Denizli, a city that prides itself on its park space. There are sports facilities, a cafe, a large picnic area, a duck pond, walking paths, and lots of places to just sit and watch the world go by.

It's not located right in the city center though. So from our apartment (which is located in the city center) it was a 4.5 km (2.8 mile) walk one way. With some wandering around the park, that would put us around 10kms (6 miles) for the day which is exactly what we were looking for.

Typical newer style apartment buildings.

The beginning of the park.

Picnic area.

Considering it was a Saturday, it wasn't very busy. With so many people living in apartment buildings, we figured the park would be packed with people enjoying a beautiful sunny day outdoors.

Stray dog feeding station.

Dogs are welcome but you must pick up after them and keep them on a leash.

And yet stray dogs are also welcome, but of course they don't have to be on a leash.

From what we gather, most people here in Turkey don't keep dogs as pets. Some do, but not many. But they do accept the strays as members of the community, and as such they are well looked after.

Park playground.
There were four young teen guys playing on this rope swing. They sure were having fun.

Many parks here have exercise equipment.

There are cats everywhere.

Duck pond, with the ever present Turkish flag.

The street where we are staying.

We had been gone for exactly two hours and did 9.3 kms (5.8 miles). Not a bad pace, considering we stopped a couple of times along the way and took some photos.

I had an email from facebook yesterday. Continuing the saga of our facebook problems, this one said that it looked like someone had logged into my account.

So I clicked the button that says "Secure your account now". And it brought me to the login page with a message that says "the link that you clicked is either invalid or it has expired".

How can a company that has so much money and so many resources be so screwed up? You'd almost think it's run by the government.

So I tried to login again anyhow, just for fun. Knowing that it wouldn't work. However this time, it came up with a different page!

It's asking me to verify my identity and change my password.

So I went through the procedure to verify my identity. They asked for a photo ID, so I sent them the page from my passport. It never did give me the opportunity to change my password. Then I checked the facebook app on my phone and it asked the same thing so I sent them a copy of my drivers licence. Now they have two pieces of ID.

This morning, it comes up with the exact some page as if I have not already done it.

With Ruth's account, she was supposed be out of facebook parole on November 4th, but when that time came and went, she learned that they have changed the date to November 11th. She can still view and post to her personal page, but can't post to any groups. What a circus.

Today, another sunny day with a high of 21C (72F) we are heading to Honaz National Park, hopefully to get a decent hike in.

Total distance walked in Turkey 177.6 kms (110.1 miles).

  1. I would be careful as to sending identification to Facebook. It sounds like your account was hacked and those pages you are getting are phishing pages. Try deleting Facebook of your devices and clearing all cache and history then reload Facebook.

    1. You can also try to open up a new Facebook account and transfer all your old posts to the new account.

    2. The account was not "hacked" and the pages are from facebook, not phishing. I had already tried what you suggested, and it did not help. And no, you cannot simply open a new account. As per facebook community standards, one person is only allowed to have one account.

  2. We will have to start calling Kevin “ANTI KEVIN”. He is anti American (money), anti Canadian (cold weather), anti Government (all of them) and anti FACEBOOK (losing money). LOL!

    1. Well you've got some of that stuff right. I am DEFINITELY anti Facebook!

  3. You have my sympathy. I do in fact have two FB accounts but can't access one. Someone hijacked it ages ago, changing the password. I can't get in and I can't delete it.

    1. And because you haven't accessed the old account, FB's algorithms haven't caught you. If you were accessing more than one account using the same email addresses and same devices, FB would have caught on.

  4. I'm not so sure that facebook isn't becoming it's own quasi-government... Your comment below is right on point.

    1. Yep, that is pretty much how we feel now about Facebook and I think there are many more people feeling this way about facebook! It is sad to see it going in this direction because it had been a great way to stay in contact with family and friends and many of the groups were helpful too.

    1. Again, as Kevin mentioned he mustn't access any of them now because Facebook's algorithms will find them and delete them.

  6. Seems to be happening a lot. Another set of Mexico travelers just lost their Instagram accounts for supposedly violating rules although Insta won't say what those rules were.

    1. Intsagram is owned by Facebook, so it doesn't surprise us a bit. It is funny though that they have locked Kevin's Facebook account but not our Instagram account!

  7. By accident I made two Facebook accounts. The first one Angi G. and the second time, what I thought, I was entering an "Essential Oil" account but ended up with another Facebook account Angelika G. After about 1/2 a year they let me know that I cannot have the same e-mail address so I changes the e-mail. Now I have two. Strange eh?

    1. I guess Facebook just hasn't caught on to your second account but if you don't access it they they don't see it in their algorithms, I bet once you do, they will soon find it and delete it.

  8. What you are describing sounds exactly like my sister in law's issue. She sent in her ID months ago and is still waiting for her account to be reactivated.

    1. Yep, Kevin really isn't expecting to gain access to his account anytime soon if ever. He can't even go in and delete his account! :-(

  9. Facebook = Fail. Their customer service is terrible, their pages are garbage, they are going the way of the dinosaur. Even my 20 year old can't stand Facebook. I have lots of friends that have deleted their accounts for many reasons. I'm hanging on because most of my friends live far and I like having that connection but sooner or later I may delete as well...

    1. What customer service? They don't have customer service in Facebook, that is why it is so difficult to try to find a way to fix Kevin's issue, there is absolutely no way to contact an actual person that works there.

We agree, we are hearing of more and more people that are becoming fed up with Facebook, and it has only gotten worse since they rolled our their "New an Improved" version back in September! For now I will stick with it but I am not sure for how long.
