At about 11:30am Wednesday, only 14 hours or so after the car accident happened, another car was sitting outside our apartment building delivered by the car rental company from 200 kms (125 miles) away. I don't know what to say except that I am amazed by the great service!
We had to drive the two men (one was the owner of the company) who brought the new car back to the place where our damaged car was sitting. I had to pay the owner 5,000 lira ($850 CAD, $650 USD) in cash. No paperwork, and no receipt. I'm confident it's all good though. And if he's putting it in his pocket, well then it's none of my business.
We got back to the damaged car and got the hood open and had a better look in the daylight.
Surprisingly, there is no frame damage and it's not quite a bad as I thought. It looks worse than it is. I found out later that they got a mechanic to repair whatever it was that was keeping it from running, and they drove it back to Fethiye (200kms, 125 miles) yesterday afternoon.
We thanked them and said goodbyes.
Then we drove back over to the eye doctor to confirm a couple more things and so that he could have another look at my eye that had the bacterial infection. He said he was impressed by how much it had improved in less than 24 hours due to the antibacterial cream, cleaning wipes, and antibiotics that he prescribed.
The eye doctor is located right close to the waterfront, so we went for a short walk. It was another beautiful day.
The eye doctor had asked if we could do whatever possible to extend our time in Turkey so that he could properly look after us. It was difficult to do because our Turkish visas expire on January 11th. And of course we had flights booked.
But it turned out that the flights were easy to change, and there was no penalty.
And I did all the research on what the consequences are if we overstay our tourist visas. There are a lot of stories on the internet of people who have done exactly that for a whole range of reasons. It seems that if the overstay is less than 10 days, you might get a small (under $100) administrative fine, and even then it's up to the border guard. And, if you have a medical note then odds are very good you will simply be waived through.
So we will ask the doctor for a letter, and we have changed our Tanzania flight date to January 19th.
We have an extra 9 days in Turkey, and we are okay with that!

ReplyDeleteWe are glad that we were able to extend our time here in Turkey without there being any problems and hopefully no extra money involved in the changes. Yes, it is a bit of piece of mind for everyone involved. We really like this doctor and the additional care that he provides to his patients.
DeleteMerry Christmas to you as well! :-)
Guess I wasn't the only one worried about that!
ReplyDeleteI am sure you weren't! :-)

What an absolutely beautiful country!
ReplyDeleteCertainly the parts of Turkey that we have seen so far have been very beautiful. Turkey has definitely exceeded our expectations and we don't mind staying and extra tens. :-)
DeleteI couldn't post a comment about train travel. Hmm. We love airplane, train and ship time. No one can contact us, we can read, eat snacks we prepare along with vodka in small bottles. You can walk back and forth, visit with people (it seems people are more accesible on trains).
ReplyDeleteWhenever you see a post of ours with the commenting turned off then it means it is a sponsored post and one that we don't want commenting on.
DeleteWe do enjoy train travel too, there is something very calming about it and yes, you are able to get up and walk around without any issues, at least under normal circumstances you can.
Never a dull moment with you two! Good luck on the surgeries and Merry Christmas!!!
ReplyDeleteNope, there doesn't seem to be! Kevin always said that if I married him life wouldn't be boring, and he has lived up to those words, lol!
DeleteThank you Karyn-Lee, and Merry Christmas to you both. :-)
Merry Christmas to you both!

DeleteWe were amazed as well, I don't think we would have had that kind of service back in Canada from a car rental company.
