More beautiful Turkish scenery

Kind of surprised that we didn't get a little more audience participation on yesterday's post. We think we have made a decision, but we won't tell you about it until we actually book the flights.

Yesterday we were released from our weekend quarantine, and it sure felt good to get out for a hike. It was only two days, but when you have no backyard you do start to feel a little cooped up. We could not do 14 days of quarantine in an apartment... or a motorhome, for that matter.

It was another nice day. They were calling for rain late afternoon, but we still managed to get a little sprinkle come down just as we started the hike.

We drove to the other side of Kas and down close to the coast to try and get on another section of the Lycian Way hiking trail.

Good view coming down the other side of Kas.

Farmland.

We headed down to the road you see, and parked at the side of the road.
From there, we took a trail that led down to the cove you can see straight ahead.

Scenery along the way.

Enjoying the view.

Had the sun been shining, you would have seen how clear the turquoise water was.

Looks like there is a cave in the distance by the shore.

Here, I'll zoom in for you!

Not all of the trails are on a "trail".
Some parts use old gravel roadways.

We have found that the trail is well marked in most places.

The rocks are very sharp.
You have to be careful when you put your hand on one to stabilize yourself.

The sharp rocks are a little hard on my hiking boots!

Somebody once had a grand plan.

There were three of these buildings being put up at some point. Now they are just falling down. Backpackers use them for shelters, but even then they aren't the nicest. And some of the backpackers aren't very good at cleaning up after themselves.

Scenery along the way.

These pretty little flowers are popping up everywhere ever since the rains started.

Hmm. What's that black thing on the rocks?

It looks like a goat!

It is a goat!

What a great boondocking spot!

Looking back at the road leading down to the great boondocking spot.

So we had to follow the road back for 2.5 kns (1.5 miles) or so and we walked by this house where there was a woman obviously making some very fresh chicken. Pretty sure these birds were alive an hour before! Really friendly people, but couldn't speak any English and of course our Turkish isn't much better. Still, they were really nice and even offered us a drive back to our car of course we were out for the exercise so we turned them down.

The woman let me take her photo.

What a great hike. We did 9.5 kms (5.9 miles).

We have now walked 343.7 kms (213.0 miles) since we arrived in Turkey October 13th.

Sorry for the delayed blog post. Today was a travel day. We should be back on track tomorrow!

  1. Not much hygiene with them chickens. Bet you they don’t get upset stomach. Their immune system is strong.

Read your post yesterday but didn’t have time to comment. Go for Tanzania and hike Killmanjaro. You have the energy to do it. Good luck in what ever choice you make.

Stay safe. We all hope that March will see Germany open.

    1. I don't know about that, I am sure that they keep things clean and she is rinsing them off well with water, although we do agree with you, we are sure they have strong immune systems.

Thanks for you input Nora, we do agree that being younger is better definitely an asset to climbing Kilimanjaro but as long as we stay physically fit we could still be able do the climb for a number of years yet.

Yes, our fingers are crossed that we will be able to get to Germany in March.

  2. With 51 countries in Europe The equation should be fairly easy . Put a European map on the wall and throw a dart Or a kitchen knife at it .... there’s a good chance you probably have never been there.?? There’s even a greater chance 99% of us never have either. We all love going to turkey on your dollar ... It’s almost like Thomas Cooks Travel an Rick Steves All rolled into one

    1. Europe is an issue for us right now for several reasons. One, the majority of the countries there are part of the Schengen Visa areas where you can only do three months in and three months out and because we want to be there in March then we would have used up most of our three months. Secondly, any of the countries that areN'T part of the Schengen Areas are still cold, although we could do Albania because it isn't a Schengen Visa country but it will still be quite a bit cooler and we aren't so sure that we want to deal with that, plus the fact that this country will be easily doable in our motorhome and that would actually be our preferable way to explore the country. And the third reason for not wanting to do Europe at the moment is that many of the countries are closed to those coming from Turkey due to COVID and there are many limitations with movement because of COVID, this is why we gave our choices to the countries that we know that we can visit at the moment.

We are so happy that you have been enjoying our travels through Turkey, I know that we sure have been loving them and we look forward to coming back here in our motorhome sometime over the next year or two. :-)

  3. I agree 100% on the boondocking spot. The woman in the pictures looks like a Uyghur. Interesting.

    1. Yep, that would be a great boondocking spot! :-)

The majority of the women in the country look and dress this way, even in the villages and towns. This is just their normal attire, I can't see them all being Uyghur.

  5. A really gorgeous hike! I wouldn't like sharp rocks, but the scenery sure is lovely. And having it all to yourselves, priceless. I know Kilimanjaro/Tanzania would be expensive and touristy, but that's not going to improve in the coming years, and I am thinking it might be less busy in 2021 than in a normal year when more people are traveling? I know I am late registering my "vote", but I so want to read about that hike that I am hoping this is the destination you have chosen. I'm behind on your posts so may find out today as I continue reading! :)

    1. It was a wonderful hike with lots of nice views and we literally had the trail to ourselves. The sharp rocks aren't bad as long as you have good footwear and hope you don't trip and reach out for the rocks with your hand to stop you, lol.

Yes, Kilimanjaro will be expensive and yes, it will be touristy but once we get out of that area we really shouldn't have many problems with being in touristy areas. Most people that go visit Tanzania go for the Serengeti and Kilimanjaro but we want to see more than just that. It will be an interesting trip that is for sure. Yes, we agree the prices aren't going to get any better and there will hopefully be a few less people than normal, I guess we will see.
