Slept well Sunday night, and woke up Monday morning ready to go for a hike and looking forward to our eye doctor appointments.
But it didn't take long to realize that something wasn't right. In the time frame of less than half an hour I went from feeling fine to running to the toilet. I had some kind of a stomach bug.
Without getting into too much detail, I was not throwing up. It was the other end! And it went on throughout the morning. I did eat breakfast, and a small lunch.
I cancelled our eye doctor appointments, and we never did make it out of the apartment. (For the third day in a row. Ugh.)
But by afternoon, I had a fever. I spent the afternoon on the couch, sleeping on and off and trying unsuccessfully to make myself comfortable. I was either too hot, or too cold.
I took an ibuprofen, and that actually helped.
And, I managed a small dinner. The runs seemed to have stopped. By bedtime, I had a minor headache, and took another ibuprofen before going to bed.
But this Covid stuff makes you paranoid. All of the symptoms I had... diarrhea, fever, headache could be attributed to Covid. And in actual fact, by the time we went to bed, we were starting to think that's what I had. But, I had no cough, and no breathing issues, and my smell and taste were fine. If you look at the current list of Covid symptoms, anything that is wrong with you could be Covid!
This morning, I feel fine! Well, 95% anyhow. The stomach still feels a little off, but certainly not bad.
So, now we think it was just a stomach bug. It's hard to figure out because Ruth and I normally eat exactly the same thing so if it was food poisoning of any kind, you would think we would both get it. But, it has happened before where one of us has had a stomach bug and the other hasn't.
Some will think that we should be tested, but I don't see the point. As it is, we stay away from people, we wear masks, we do the hand sanitizer thing all the time. And given all of that, I don't see how we could get it in the first place.
I phoned the eye doctor this morning and after discussing the situation he is comfortable with us making another appointment. We go at 3:30 this afternoon.

The virus is starting to mutate in the UK, so I would error on the side of caution.
ReplyDeleteBe safe!!! For both yourselves and others.
Yes, we have read about that. If Kevin had woken up yesterday still feeling crappy than we would for sure have gone and got tested but he felt totally fine. We don't want to let paranoia take over or else we would be rushing to get tested all the time. We always take the necessary precautions both for ourselves and for others.
DeleteWe also talked to the doctor before arriving at our appoint and we explained Kevin's symptoms and whether the doctor still wanted to see us or not, he was confident that we were fine. They take your temperature as soon as you walk into the office and we both checked out fine.
Keeping our fingers crossed for you. Like Deuce stated it has Mutated in the UK. It is easier to catch but they don't believe it is as severe.
ReplyDeleteBe Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
Kevin felt totally fine yesterday. We talked with the doctor and explained Kevin's symptoms to him and we was confident that we did not have COVID. When we arrived at the doctor's office our temperatures we taken and we both checked out fine and have been feeling fine since. We take every necessary precaution to keep ourselves safe and those around us whenever we are out about.
DeleteGermany is in lockdown. No flights out per my friend who went home for a funeral. She's stuck there until lockdown is lifted.
ReplyDeleteBTW virus mutation is also in Africa but not sure where.
DeleteSouth Africa
DeleteWe will not be headed to Germany until mid to late March so things can easily change by that time. We will wait and see what happens when the time comes, until then we are more concerned with the present and what is happening around us!
DeleteAfter all the traveling we've done this year, both in the U.S. plus a trip to Mexico, our kids insisted we test before we even THOUGHT of spending Christmas with them. (We weren't able to spend Thanksgiving with them, in large part because of their uncertainty about this.)
ReplyDeleteWell, we did get tested. And the results were NEGATIVE.
We're still waiting to hear what they'll say now about Christmas dinner.
You sound a bit skeptical about this. You should be happy your kids are concerned and you should be happy to oblige them.
DeleteThe only issue with receiving a negative test result is that it tells you that you don't have COVID at that moment but what is to say that you don't catch it somewhere along the way between being testing and arriving at their place, unless you totally self isolate until you see them.
DeleteWhen we went to see our son and his girlfriend at their place before we left Canada they wanted us to more or less self isolate as well, they knew how very careful we were being because of having to able to be permitted to seeing my dad in a senior care facility, they just didn't what us going out and visiting other people or going anywhere that wasn't necessary and we had no problems abiding by those rules.
I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and enjoy your family time.
Ours is the opposite we are staying away from our kids and grand children because of our concerns. I know personally of people who have spent weeks on a ventilator and then weeks back in because of blood clots. Another one who died, several who had minor symptoms and a few that were pretty sick but not in need of hospitalization. There are more dying just here in the states every day that died in the attack on the attack of Peral Harbor or 9/11.
ReplyDeleteWe know people that have children and grandchildren and if they want to visit their parents/grandparents then they have to self isolate for 14 days before coming to visit. At least that way if they want to visit then you know they should be good. If you still don't feel comfortable with that, then as you say it is best to just wait it out and not take any chances.
DeleteGlad you are feeling better. Us too; any small symptoms we start wondering....
ReplyDeleteKevin says he feels 100 percent. It is really hard not to be paranoid at any little symptom but then again, you can't run to get tested every time you show one of the minor symptoms!
DeleteSo good to hear you only had false alarm. It is scary, I was down with fever for a few days, but had a neg test.
ReplyDeleteWe are glad that it was a false alarm too!
DeleteI'm behind on your blog again so just getting caught up now. My husband also had some weird symptoms that seemed like food poisoning in early Dec. He was vomiting, had malaise, chills, and later a little congestion. His symptoms lasted 48 hours. We assumed foodborne illness, but since we'd eaten the same things, it was strange -- just like Kevin's. We did consider COVID, but he'd been so careful and really hadn't been anywhere except maybe one quick store, in a mask. I never got it, whatever it was, and he never got tested. We may never know. Glad Kevin felt 100% very quickly!
ReplyDeleteEven during Covid people are still going to get the normal cold and/or flu or just an off day or two so it is so hard to differentiate between that and Covid but we think we know our bodies well enough to know when something is really off. We are the same, we go to so few places where we could have caught Covid and everywhere that we do go we wear our mask and keep our distance and then when we return to the car and/or apartment we use antiseptic wipes or wash our hands well. Obviously in our case and yours everything was fine but it sure gets you wondering!
