Hair cuts and a visit with friends

That's definitely the longest I've gone without a haircut for quite a while. The last time it was cut was the week before we left Canada, so over three months ago.

Ruth and I met when she cut my hair. And over the next 30 years, she was the only one who cut my hair! When we are traveling in a motorhome, she has her hair cutting gear with her. But otherwise, it's not so easy.

In Guatemala in 2013, I had to get someone else to cut my hair. And then again in Mexico a few years later.

Ruth also wanted to get her hair cut, so we asked our Airbnb host if she knew of someone, and she was quick to recommend a lady who was walking distance away. She made an appointment for Ruth for 11:00am, and so we walked over there to get it done.

Sure enough, she did a great job and with eyebrows done as well for a total of 65 lira ($11 CAD, $8.75 USD), tip included.

We had walked by a barber shop a few times near our street, so on the way back we popped in there. No other customers, so that was great. The barber went right to work, and cleaned me up! Boy, that felt better! Total price was 35 lira ($6.00 CAD, $4.75 USD), tip included.

Here is the finished product...

That's better!

We walked back home and had some lunch, and then headed out to meet up with friends Volkan and Heather. We met at a park the other side of town close to where our eye doctor is, so we would be able to go directly there after our get together.

We sat outside and got caught up for a couple of hours. Always interesting talking with them because they are also avid world travelers. Volkan is originally from Turkey, and they are waiting things out here, exploring parts of the country that are new to them as well. When they decide to travel again they plan to head to either Thailand or Japan, but nothing is written in stone.

(We took off our masks just for the photos!)

Us again!

Heather and Volkan.

Really nice getting caught up with them, and it will be interesting to see what part of the world we will be in when we meet again!

Then it was off to our eye doctor appointment. Everything is the way it should be. One final appointment this coming Saturday before we head out.

  5. Kevin, your haircut definitely looks way better than the poofy look, but I think next time you should get your hair cut short on top like Volkan -- that is a more youthful look for a youthful-looking guy! Ruth, your haircut looks amazing! I have not gotten a haircut since June, when I just couldn't stand it any longer as it had been many months, so I completely understand the difficulty. When I did, I wore a mask, and that wasn't the best thing to do while getting a haircut, since it's kind of in the way. Looking forward to getting my vaccines so I will finally be able to return for a trim! It's already my longest time ever without one.

    1. When I do Kevin's hair it is generally shorter on top than what he got this time but Kevin said that he liked it and that it made a bit of a change.

Thank you, I was quite happy with my haircut and also being able to get my eyebrows done, they were overdue. I know what you mean about going out and getting your haircut done, I got our daughter, Lindsey to trim mine before we left three months ago because I didn't want to go to a hairdresser but I figured I better get in done in Turkey because they wouldn't be used to cutting my type of hair in Tanzania. I kept my mast on during the whole haircut and she never had an issue cutting my hair with my mask on, she also wore a mask.

I hope that you will be able to go and get yours done soon.
