By the time most of you read this, we will be well on our way through the first day of our 4 day, 3 night trek up Africa's 5th highest and Tanzania's 2nd highest mountain, Mt. Meru.
Our guide and our chef were over at the apartment on Sunday going over some things with us. They are very detailed, and want to make sure you are prepared. I get the impression that they have come across people who have definitely not been prepared.
Our guide is Mudy (pronounced Moody), and our chef is Bazil. One of our porters Abdallah who was with us on our walk the other day was also there, as was our friend Justin who works at Rwalinda Tours.
They are all very concerned about our well being.
A map of Arusha National Park and Mt. Meru.
Our cook Bazil on the left, with Ruth and our guide Mudy.
Going through our gear.
These are the bags the porters will carry... on their heads!
We each have a small day pack where we have to carry 3 quarts of drinking water, snacks, camera, and whatever clothing we might need for the day. The rest of our gear is carried by the porters. Mt. Meru has hut accommodation along the way, so we will not be sleeping in tents.
You will not see another blog post here until sometime Thursday!
Oh... I almost forgot. We walked to town for lunch as well. We went back to the Indian restaurant called The Five Chutney's. Really good vegetarian food, and really nice people who run the place...
Ruth, surprised by her big lunch.
Mine was big too.
And delicious!
So... we are off. Wish us luck... it's going to be tough, but we are confident!

And in Canada...
Good luck you 2! It is comforting to know that they put safety first! Take care,Rawn

DeleteMy dish was called Masala Dosa and the filling is a sort of paste of boiled potatoes, fried onions with a variety spices such as of mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, coconut, coriander, lemon juice, curry leaves, green chillies and turmeric. Kevin's was similar, his was called Maisur Dosa and the filling in his was a paste made of spicy chutney made with red chillies, onion and garlic. The wrap part was made with rice and lentils that have soaked overnight and then ground into a batter and then cooked like a crepe. We were very good! :-)
